I think this city has it what it takes to be a Global city, I am not taking anything away from other cities or metros in Inida, but Bangalore has that warmth, the climate, and people are cosmopolitan here, they are not afraid of people from other region, as it is the case in Mumbai and chennai where rampant regionalism is there, here the city has people from all over the country and now people are trickling from all over the world for work purpose, education purpose and now a hot spot for medical tourism with IT and BT industry here getting recognised all over the world, and has best restaurants and pubs in the country. This makes the city truly a global city with multi ethnicity driving things for this city than any other city in the country.... |

If it really happens in future then it will be a great achievement.
Whatever posted about Mumbai & Chennai, by Ms.Amrita is very true & the main
barrier for these cities to become global.
Ya i agree, bangalore is the most happening place, though it has some limtations like infra and traffic congestion.. i believe even new york has traffic jams. I love the food, attitude and hospitality of the people here.
I agree in that Bangalore has the potential BUT it needs the infrastructure development & the right attitude at the center!

Lets not for a minute fool ourselves that swanky buildings N cosmopolitan culture make a world class city. It is Eco friendly garbage disposable system, clean sewarage Biotech parks and fountains Museums -showcasing art, history Open air theatre and Ampi-theatre Accessability to venues-To & Fro Right srface transport Excellent policing and security Hygiene world class schools or value based schools Round the clock state machinery world class universities public discipline DOES ANY CITY HAVE THIS OR WILL EVER HAVE..................NO .NEVER' BANGALORE..........Its a bloody choked city.try driving from richmond road to hosur road OR the old city OR the noise pollution of the sutos or The dirt that plagues the cityOR the capitation fee colleges of the politicians that dot the outskirts. We can't think of comparing our cities to Singapore, shanghai, osaka, seoul, san fancisco, prague, budapest,Paris,or even ISTANBUL I know it because I have seen them...........We are not evn 20% near them sanjay singhal

Sanjay is right. India and cities in India has to go a long way. First of all political will is lacking. Corruption stops anything from completing properly. After all the culture that is Indian and remains Indian (what I call ISI Indian standard not global). Finally, visionaries, missing hightime.
For example, Bangalore, so cosmopolitan, English widely spoken, upwardly mobile urban population.......at the end what happened? The BJP and so many Senas screwed up the structure totally. Can anyone do anything I am sure not unless there is Saddam Hussain kind to rule them.
Sorry guys I had many dreams about some Indian city, favorite was Bangalore, but shattered.
It can happen with with the public and Govt participation.
i think Sanjay has hit the bulls eye by pointing out the main features in making of a global city. it will remain a dream , believe me, to ee a world-class city in India for another few years till we realise what it takes to make one! its good that we still have to learn and overcome our own weaknesses and shortfalls in system and in ourselves.
Cochin can be regarded to the global city cut list. One major reason is, the very recently inaugurated Vallarpadam container terminal. Its one of its kind in india which will hold a global image.

No Indians city is close to make that of Global city list. Apartment from lack of infrastructure, quality utilities our culture need to be changed a lot to make it. Whether it is discipline in traffic, line up at the bank, spitting on the road....I can go on and on. At first there should be commitment from authorities to implement rules to the effect of making a city better. With the quality of our politician and corruption at its peak sadly I have no hope for any city in the near future.

In my view if present scenario is maintained, proper care of sanitation, Roads, Greenary, development of more sattelite towns in and around city. This I hope will help in reducing the burden on the existing infrastructure resulting in equivocal distribution of infrastructure and hazard free roads, sanitation, commutation reduction in concrete jungles, natural absorbtion of rainwater by soil amd compounding advantages.

I think looking at the Infrastructure, Diversity in job creation and types of cultures embedded in the city, makes Delhi a good contender in becoming a True global City. In Past decade the way Satellite Cities (Noida, Greater Noida, Faridabad, GurGaon, Sahibabad) has been developed around Delhi is excellent and gave Delhi a real expansion. Delhi is the only Metro city in Norther Part of India and caters to jobs creation, Higher Education needs, Medical facilities of UP, Bihar, J&K, Himanchal, Panjab, Haryana, rajastha, Madhya Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, and complete North East. Delhi has also got an Historical face to show to the world, along with modern era architectures in and around it. |
