According to me over half of our energy in India comes from burning coal. We all know what this is doing to our planet, choking it, effectively but did you know it’s also a massive waste of money? In India, we usually only get out about 10% of the energy coal contains within it. That kind of inefficiency simply wouldn’t be acceptable in any other sector. It’s not just the inefficiency either. Burning coal is cooking our planet and causing droughts and floods all across India and the rest of the world. If we invest in renewable energy we could solve both of these problems. |

The idea of yours is that majority of power produced in India is inefficiently and coal burning damages the environment.
It is truly said.
Indian power plant can make coal burning in more efficient way and there is no data available in open to anyone to see and compare plant wise.(If someone knows where to get this details please indicate)
Sadly we require very huge plant capacity in the shortest time which definitely existing non polluting plants can not meet.
Surely coal burning should be made more efficient, Indian economy growth is already suffering for want of power.
Very Correct. In today`s scenario Coal based Thermal Power Plant is really a nuiscence so far Carbon Di Oxide generation is concerned.Bulk existing Generation is on Coal and other Fossil fuels.Only major alternative is Nuclear and then Hydle.
It is agreed that hazard of nuclear waste is dangerous. But danger caused by CO2 blanketing continuously is no lesser concern.
All developed nations are taking shelter of Nuclear and Hydle generation than depending on Coal. Here not only reduction of CO2 is caused but also saving of Oxygen is involved.

Nice idea contest padmaja. But I think the corporate sector needs to wake up to the challenges to the climate change. Since the number of IT companies emerging in India is increasing day by day, they are not adopting renewable energy. So each company should now get conscious about their carbon foot prints. I am not saying that they should spend a lot of money doing it and reduce their profit. There are lot of 'no regrets' measures which can yield very high result. |

We have to agree that Automobile is the major constituence of fuel. Every day tons & tons of fossil fuels are burnt. In order to reproduce this source we have to wait millions of years. If go to renewable energy sources this can be avoided. Now comming to the coal usage, Power plants are major industry. this is a conventional source & a non-renewable one. The combustion efficiency of the coal have dropped down considerably over the years. The power plants with renewable energy has to be encouraged by the Government to fulfill the electicity demand in 2020, which is as double as what we have now. We have to double the power sources what we have so far. Which is not possible with conventional type power plants. If these two industries go well then automastically every other demands will be satisfied. |

Along with Padmaja's view on Coal industries, I think Automobile industries and power plants should also move in this direction. They are the ones who contribute to energy consumption / distribution to a great extent.

We specialize in integrating Photovoltaics to buildings to make them energy efficient, we recently completed a project in Italy, integrating Photovoltaics to Noise Barriers on a MOTORWAY and thus providing energy to 200 homes in the area, excessive energy is sent back to the GRID. This is the need of the hour in India and we are here to offer solutions, I am contactable on pradeep@globalventurescorp.com |
