The general tedency of the people is that they like the discount in all the things which they purchase and so if there ia a discount stores then the people will visit it more and the footfall will me more in the store. The thing you get in less price then the market and with good quality then all will go there only so discount stores are more favorit in mall.

Hypermarkets

idea posted by Vijay Sharma Logistics Manager, Reliance retail
Well now with the younger generation taking over, they want everything to be available at one place only. So a Hypermarket is beat for them, where they can get everything at one go in a pleasant environment.

To take the retail growth forward i guess the hyper format with value for money and convinience as key USP will be best suited for india. The carrefour model in the UAE could be a big hit in india. However, indian shopper is such that, we cant say anythin is sure hit or letdown..Anythin might happen... cos It happens only in INDIA..!!

Well, hypermarkets are convenient and the in-thing.  I prefer shopping at a hyperstore rather than having to look around town for a couple of things I might need.  Besides, the decor is normally great and there's cool places to hang out at.

indian retail sector ,if integrated  in right way can be a turn  around .lets consider a shopper prespective ,she gets in shop and wants all possible varities available for a  particular product .idea is to create a market like never before and bringing every possilble varity of every kind of product  under one roof, catering every section of customer.if the store happens to be of apparals then it should offer from mid level to luxury brands serving need of assorted consumer needs and make there shopping experience an indulging one and make them feel elated .this way one can make the existing consumer keep coming back and eventually increase the conume base.

I fully support the Hypermarket dilemma put in by Yatish. There is no better way to put forward the dilemma. But, Yatish should have suggested a format.

I think Superspeciality stores idea put in by Kawaljit is what I feel is the preferable model. Of late people have become choosy within a particualr category, and assuming in a particular locality there are four superspeciality stores of different categories, people may feel going to these stores in stead of travelling all along to a famous hypermarket.

Multipurpose Store

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

I say this because as humans and not Indians, mind you, everyone likes a FREELUNCH!!

But the multipurpose format (Walmart or Plazas) would afford a A to Z of needs for all kinds of consumers! Every FMCG product at one point or another, because of fierce competition, has to avail of ground activity that pleases a customer and makes them loyal. The sheer fun of going into such stores id good because;

1. Infrastructure: These are carefully designed and operated for maximum consumer comfort.

2. Space: The fun of strolling through the gangways gazing at brightly lit corridors and brands beckoning all shpoaholics is simp[ly put very STIMULATING!!

3. Planning: Well planned floor spaces will lead a shopper into the next item on the agenda of his shopping wish list

4. Experience: I do not need to elaborate :))

These are purely my thoughts on the basis of the fact that Retail is in India to stay. They are frequented by both the types of demographics (SEC A/A+,B)etc and the Middle class that thrive on the usage of plastic cards as well.

The type of format depends on the category of products eg Provision grocery/ apprels / Electronics  you handle as well as the type of locality you are in.

The hypermarket dilemma

idea posted by Yatish C Ballolla CEO/MD/Director, Retailyogi

Food & grocery still forms over half of all household expenditure in the country.  Localised shopping behaviour which prevents consumers from travelling long distances to shop; coupled with the added benefits of shopping for all household needs under one roof, makes 'hypermarkets' the format of choice for regular household shopping.  Further, most Indian hypermarkets offer 'private-labels' - that offer value for money while not compromising on quality - across many categories.

From the retailers' perspective; hypermarkets are 'cash guzzlers' - hugely capital intensive in terms of requirement of space; fixtures & furniture and inventory.  By the same extension; they have long gestation periods making it difficult for many small retailers to invest and wait.
