Historically, the highest returns are made within a day of a major rebound so if you’re not invested for the long haul, you’re at risk of losing that windfall gain. So,in which sector we should invest in near term ,that will yield higher returns?

Infrastructure

idea posted by Esha Johar Risk Analyst, Irevna

I think in the near term,we have to focus on sectors that will benefit from those government stimulus packages. They all have a common theme to use infrastructure as the key stimuli to create jobs and to increase activity in the economy. These infrastructure projects will include hospitals, schools, water projects, railroads, highways, bridges, ports, airports and energy.

Indeed infra would be one of the key sectors where the thrust would be in the coming future. For India to gain that double digit growth Indian infrastructure - esp. roads, ports, railways, airports need to be developed robustly. Also with reports that Indian govt. would be achieving its target of $500 bn investment in this sector by 2015 strengthens this point.

what ever be the state of economy or the business cycle in the long run a country like india which lacks infrastructure, and the way the infrastructure developers say BOT operators are charging the toll etc and are allowed to do so, the infrastructure will only grow grow and any investment in it will give returns, it is only a matter of time the segment has to grow and give the best returns.the population is growing the infrastructure requirement will grow always

Renewable energy

idea posted by Deepa Salunke Associate, SBI

According to me ,now a days one area is highly investable with high growth potential is renewable energy. Over the next few years, solar, wind and hydro energy will see mass global implementation. With government funding on the line, there is a legitimate will to develop these industries.

I agree that Renewable Energy is the best place to invest in.. The country has seen a very less investment in this sector, but this requires a lot of investment.. I hope everyone will believe that 3 sides of India is surrounded by sea. If investment is done in Tidal Energy, lot of energy needs can be satisfied.

Other idea is if every city uses solar energy then, the energy for street light, etc can be sourced form them,

The investment in renewable energy is not only profitable but also addresses the global enviornment issues.

PSU Bank, Infrastructure

idea posted by Abhay Dodiya B.Com. M.B.A.(Fin.)

Looking at broder perspective government wanted to have liquidity in market to meet the demand of slowdown Infrastucture sector,So i feel government further cut the bank rate to boost up the Infrastructure demand which help the Builder lobby to meet their short term working capital need as well as for individual bank loan would be further cheap source of financing.

Which will secure government support

idea posted by Oleg Head/VP/GM-Private Equity/Hedge Fund/VC, Fronteza

As a short-term investor, I would consider projects that will get the conprehensive support and money aid from the government. These can be infrastructure projects, projects in the heath care and renewable energy sectors, agriculture sector and some others. Basically, I think these should be the sectors which will drive the internal production growth (thus GDP) and restore the general money turnover cycle. As a long-term investor, taking into account that my area of interests lays in high technology and entertainment sectors, I would consider information technologies, renewable energy, consumer electronics and devices, medical & health care sector and some other sectors as a field where to search for the prospective young and mature companies. This may not repay in a short term, but since the world becomes more and more technological, I believe this strategy will pay off itself.

I agree.  Actually the topic appears to include investors in the primary/sectonday market too.  However, you have offered an insight as to what attracts you if investment proposals are made to you.  I feel you are well on line and your investments will pay in the long run.

One idea though.  The present government will lace lot of emphasis on HR - the youth component.  A company which caters to areas of your interest but with emphasis on HR and Talent Management could be ideal.  I could offer such proposals if you are interested

Banking - PSU/PVT

idea posted by Manish N Chugh Officer Trainee, Stock Holding Corporation of India ltd.,

The near term will be guided by the Banking stocks may that be PSU's or THE PVT. The banking stocks are currently having greater supports and lesser resistance level in the near term... So Cheers to banking stocks!!.... Thank you, Manish N.

Cheers!!

AVOID SECTORIAL INDICES UNLESS YOU ARE A VERY MARKET SAAVY INVESTOR.

idea posted by Arunangshu Choudhury Agent, L.I.C

The markets being where they are(NIFTY is now more than double in just 6 months). This is clearly uncharted territory. As such i would consider it prudent to avoid sectorial stories. Now is the right time to invest in balanced funds or to start S.I.P/S.T.P in a diversified equity fund if long term wealth creation is what you are looking for.P.S-this is valid for 6th Dec 2009.I can see you started this thread 7 months ago!
