To say it in short, it has a wide spectrum of applications. So if there is a crunch in one field, design professionals can jump to stabler field. |

I believe support/Maintainance jobs which include legacy systems such as Mainframe components are relatively stable.

The service industries taking crae of the basic needs will have to go on- recession or not.
Telecommuniction, Railways abn oter transport systems, Hospitals, Public Distribution, Schools and other educational institutions etc. are not really recession proof but will have to go on, unlike many other industries that are likely to become bankrutp and shut down.
ERP is an IT business that would help to bridle recession. By introducing right resourse planning, the industries and cut the flab and cope up with reduced budgets and curb in resources.

Yes, i do agree with what you said. But like to add saying most of these Maintainance/production support may be offshored to cut cost.

Hi Umesh, systems maintenance is another field which is evergreen & unaffected due to systems everywhere which require strong help desk or desktop talent all the times.

Ranjan very true, Companies are cutting down on many things, but still they have to
maintain and utilize all the systems. The core areas like networking
administration, tech support, and database management will also remain unaffected.

Nowadays web 2.0 technologies are in demand, so people who know AJAX and Ruby on Rails will not be affected.
