The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Chairman Suresh Kalmadi has ruled out appointing actor Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.

Ideally, a sportsperson should be the brand ambassador of the sporting event. Who do you think should be the brand ambassador of the Commonwealth Games?

The worker who carried Most bricks

idea posted by Ravindra Sharma Managing Consultant, CHEF-India

People who are known and forever hungry for more name and fame, may be ready to do anything to get their name pasted with zero input and full ownership would remain aplenty.

Yet in a democracy where it is public money and not the individual's who stake their name claim on plaque. We must not continue to forget the Man who toiled incessantly, worked hard and may have even paid with his/ her life for that creation, deserves first and foremost mention on plaque. Be its a bridge or stadia  or any structure where public money (understand there is no Government Money in a democracy and Government at best is a custodian of public money)

Friends this is true difference between Democracy and all other forms....Thus the person who PERFORMED MOST WORK OUGHT BE KNOWN.

Well said. I am for this Idea.

Milkha singh

idea posted by Dayanand Deshpande Senior Consultant, Ernst & Young

Brand ambassadors for sports events should be sportspersons. We have people like Milkha Singh. Also known as flying sikh. We should avoid introducing needless glamour in sports. Sports have their own glamour, their own icons. We dont need people like Sonia Gandhi or Amitabh Bachhan in sports. Real events should be promoted by real heroes. Milkha singh is a living legend. It will be centuries to find a sportsperson equal to him.

Well said  Anandhi .Really this is the high time that media should stop focussing only the glam world & Big-B family.Because they are more deserving candidates in our country who can represent CWG.

I agree. Milkha Singh, PT Usha, Prakash Padukone, Vijay amritraj, Pargat Singh, Sunil Gavaskar are very few, I can name here. Milkha Singh seems to be the best. IPL should teach film personalities and politicians that games personalities command respect and honor when it really matters. People visiting the stadium know them and want them to be honored on special sports events. Its not politicians or film personalties only that are crowd pullers.

Good that some one has belled the cat.  Sick of Glam in sports.  Looks like Big B is getting into everything now, front line of all media has pictures of either Bahu rani Aish or Big B.  Its is high time the family should be underwraps.

My first thought would be ikon like Kiran Bedi...Who is respected and created lot of authentic news nationwide.

A brand Ambassador of a sports event has to be a successful sportsman with lots of glamor behind him.The only sportsman who are tremendously successful and are also glamorous are Sachin Tendulkar

Add your argument:

Saina Nehwal

idea posted by Prakash Saitwal Technical Support Manager, Aditya Birla Management Corporation P. Ltd.

Saina Nehwal, according to me, will be ideal brand ambassador of India in Commonwealth games.

Because, she is the player, in active sport at present.

Because, she has shown a spectacular performance in 2 years to reach in Top Five World players.

Because, she is totally focussed on the game, steering clear of glamour world and controversies.

Because, she will go long way to brighten India's name in Badminton world

PT Usha & Milkha Singh

The old forgotten heroes of Indian sports need to thrown into the limelight. Thats the least the Sports Minister can do. They stand testimony to the fact that sheer grit and determination alone can win you accolades and honour for your country.

Our younger generation needs to be educated about these sports personalities, rather than following Cricket heroes (dont they get enough publicity anyways?).

Mohan Lal Ghosh, first Indian medalist at CWG

idea posted by Navjeet Sood Business Head, ADI Media Pvt Ltd

CWG, a multinational an multi-sport event, on since 1930. With the 19th edition to be held in Delhi, it took 80 long years for us to stage this event in our country after participating in 11 previous editions. To be a brand ambassdor, why are we looking at sporting icons / celebreties / personalities who are very current in their existence? Why can we not name Mohan Lal Ghosh, a wrestler from Kolkata who had won the first medal (bronze) in the 1966 version of CWG at Kingston, Jamaica. The sports authority should give honour by inviting the person who gave India its firstever medal ofCWG. What say, fellow TooStepites.

Indeed the first Indian Medalist should be honored.

Every sport must have it's own hall of fame and the connectivity of the achievers to game must be maintained through the life and in memorabilia later and the young entrants trying to connect to seniors should be encouraged.

Add your argument:

Miss Deepika Padukone

idea posted by mahesh golani counsellor/advisor/expert

Deepika is a sportswoman besides being a succesful film actress and ramp model. She carries herself very well and can talk confidently before a large audience intelligently. She is the ideal brand ambassador for Commonwealth games. She is also the daughter of Mr Prakash Padukone and ex commonwealth games gold medal winner in Badminton
