When you need to write a report, a paper or any article, first thing that comes to your mind is MS office.. We haev been using it since ages and we are used to it. But a Texas judge has ordered Microsoft to stop selling its Microsoft Word application in its current form, as the software contains technology which violates a patent held by a third party.

Judge Leonard Davis of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas ruled in favor of i4i, a Canadian technology firm that claimed Microsoft violated its intellectual-property rights for custom XML in Word 2003 and Word 2007. The judge has issued a permanent order which prohibits Microsoft from selling or importing to the U. S. any Microsoft Word products that have the capability of opening .XML, .DOCX or DOCM files (XML files) containing custom XML.

Pity that such gaints are sued for such reasons :(

Why do such biggies get into such wrong practices when they have so many resources of their own?

Get an easy way to top

idea posted by Smita Dalvi Sales/BD Manager, Hewlett-Packard

All of us do this. We like to get to the top and for this we like to take the elevator and not steps. Biigies or the small companies all want ready made stuff to use to feel that high of success..

In business it may be called as a game that management will play.Microsoft has shown its smartness. However Microsoft should not have violated the intellectual property rights, anyhow on the legal ground Microsoft has accepted the wrong doings. Thanks for the referral Ms.Smita Dalvi.

A good post madam....well answer is in the question itself , they got resources then why fear malpractices...Also its a well known fact that turning such a biggie like microsoft down will ultimately bring inefficiency in software development.

If we look at corporate history of microsoft, it is not surprising. Microsoft has been monopolist from its inception. Basically, microsoft is a giant marketing corporation, instead of innovation and customer oriented service. ms-dos was derived from qdos, similarly idea for ms excel was from another company. Microsoft, uses other's innovations and technologies, with its giant marketing to dominate and monopolize the market. They are doing this right now with bing, windows phone and xbox as well which are like imitations.

Microsoft is a good citizen

Microsoft belongs to a civilized society. And is a civilized citizen of that society. If a court tells Microsoft it has broken a certain law, Microsoft is ready to accept the blame. If an appeal is to made against the court's decision, that is also done within a legal framework. Compare Microsoft to corrupt politicians who rule by corruption and dictators who rule by the gun, without any regard for a democratically enacted rule of law. Who would you say is better, Microsoft or A Raja?

In growing competetion the prospect to remain at the top takes you Zoom and Jive to remain at the top, to hold the position they go for a WAR, Every thing is fair in Love n WAR. Any ways the brand only is not responsible, its the people who provide the thought process are the biggest culprit and when caught the brand we remember not the people.

Businesses resort to unfair practices to stay on top or to increase their market share and profits. And microsoft is no exception. Even our own Tata group is not an exception. Thats why we have all those legislations, checks, counter-checks, etc.
