Hi Friends

I have initiated this discussion to know why employees behave negatively at work.

Some employees don't realise the impact their behavior has on others when driven by force of bad habit. Others deliberately choose behaviors that irritate, frustrate and anger colleagues. Why do people behave like this.....

Negative Behavior at Workplace

idea posted by Sailaja Swayampakula Soft Skills Trainer, Apollo Hospitals

Why an employee behave negatively at workplace.  This question is completely related with the individual behavior and as well the situations at workplace.  The reason behind is human behavior is very complex and depends on the situation.  Behavior changes situation to situation. Whatever be the scenario, there are various reasons for such behavior, out of which the given below are the most important 5 reasons:

1)  Inability to handle situation, perceiving negatively (Pessimistic).

2)  Lack of knowledge, skills and talent for that particular job

3)  Ability to do the tasks / job efficiently

4)  Office Politics - Needs to solve assertively, which may be failure most of    the times (behave professionally)

5)  Job Satisfaction

6)  Many other reasons, depends on the individual.

Thanks

Sometimes the very working atmosphere will contribute to make workers behave differently.A boss who like to boss over, exploitation of workers by putting unjustifiable demands, long working hours, bad set up, poor quality infrastructure are some of the reasons that lead to such situation. Today workers are more knowledgeable and can understand better some it is the duty of the organization to provide right kind of working atmosphere and get work done

To Show off/seek attention

In general everyone of us seek attention form others. This is found to be more common at workplaces. Just to show off or seek attention employees show few negative behaviour or attitude. Sometimes it is good but most of the time it will create some problems for the employee. Like creating a bad impression on the employee or lead to some misunderstanding among colleagues.

Never hate someone who is angry. You never know what he is going through. In fact he needs your empathy more than ever.Unlike machines, every incident in around has an effect on human being such as a traffic jam while coming to office, dirty politics in office, office rivalry, problems at home front and what not...Moreover the stressful job routines which we are going through..compounds the effect and  in same cases goes beyond human resilience and may burst in form of anger which may have collateral damages in form of what you say negative behavior. This can happen to me.... to you.... and to everybody else...assuming that somebody is doing that for attraction is something which I would beg to differ.

Employees as human beings could have negative personality traits such as envy, jealousy, lack of self-awareness, etc causing them to behave negative in their place of work.

there is an unwritten fact that people leave or stick onto organizations because of their bosses. however adept a person is professionally, if the environment is adverse, they are bound to be negative & then the favourite hobby becomes bitching. that is why EQ is given more importance than IQ.

Employees work dedicatedly for company. But whenever, the replies through individuals who sometimes represents the company are not matching the expectations, dissatisfaction happens. The highly retained employees have high expectation and low dissatisfaction benchmark.

Redu behaviour of seniors

It is quite often seen that senious behave very rudely to their subordinates inspite of good work done by them. Whatever u call it, senority, nature or anything else, employees who do work and get a rude trait feel bad do work with more negativeness and less enthusiasm.

Negative behavior is relative. So when you say negative, it could well be difference of perception.
