I support Dr. Ray's proposition. Everything is at a mental level. This will slowly go if one adopts "satvic" quality when he starts putting him in the other person's place and starts feeling pain arising out of such fall or injury. This attitude was advocated by Mahatma Gandhi and propagated "Ahimsa" when Britishers were "reining in" on Indians. People, gradually, shed their violent activity and followed Mahatma's path! Its not hard to follow proven methods!

Perhaps most of us 'humans' are 'emotionally-challenged' as soon as we come across a 'social cognitive ontological construct SCOC' http://www.igi-global.com/bookstore/chapter.aspx?TitleId=21365 which is very different from our own.

Consider a situation in an office. The boss is in angry with everyone. He lost one of his most important file. He is shouting at everyone " i want that file in an hour ". He is sitting in his chair looking outside through the window. He found a man walking down the road so urgently. His mind is still searching for the file "where should have that gone?", but his eyes are looking at that man. Suddenly the man got slipped and fallen down softly. That incident make the boss giggle or may be laugh at a moment of time. He was thinking of that file, but still the sudden incident made him smile. So it was not a matter of attitude, legacy, wisdom, etc. Its purely a human behaviour. The above mentioned incident can be happen with you or may happened.

These scientific explations are out of my reach. Well, i want to support this idea. It's not a character but genetic. We can find these pecularities in small kids, mentally disabled people, grown ups, etc. The laugh or smile is not exactly a mental behaviour. It is a work done by our brain.

I fully agree with Mr.Bhardwaj that this is a cultural issue, I haven't seen this in other cultures. In India, everything is funny.

Such attitude is not acceptable though morally, most of the people advocate this to reach the position they want to get by pulling the leg of others which are ahead on the same trajectory. It's easier that way. Who wants it to be hard anyway?:-)

I wouldn't laugh if my friend/someone is knocked down, but will surely laugh if the same happens due to absence of mind/ignoring caution.

Humans love to see a hero fall. Citing the case of Baba Ramdev, isn't it odd how many people have started voicing negative comments about him after the Ram Lila ground incident.
Similarly, when we see another person fall, we feel a sense of glee and enjoy the other person's embarrassment or predicament. It is this feeling that makes us laugh.

It is a wrong attitude that people cultivate because when someone falls they feel they themselves become higher .This though is not a fact but is just a state of mind and a thought which is completely baseless. Parents should cultivate right attitude in their children's mind to take care of this issue. |

Yes, often we come across these people. Even we could have behave sometimes. But the experience and knowledge will lead to wisdom teaches us the importance of human relation. This we call maturity and people with immaturity may behave like this. Time is a good teacher and it teach the good lessons for all.

The fashion in which someone falls is responsible for making one laugh. If someone laughs seeing the effect of the fall, it is purely sadistic.

If one who fall is young than i will laugh...
but if he is old and child than will first help him
because they are the one who really need support at that time...

Surely depends on the intensity and situation.
If a person falls by accident from a speeding bike, you will not find a single person who will laugh.

laugh on, a fall which gives serious consequences is ridiculous but a normal fall becomes a joke and deserves a laugh.
