Social media is media designed to be disseminated through social interaction, created using highly accessible and scalable publishing techniques.Social media has modernized the business community. Businesses are now able to reach consumers in a new way; through the internet. Social media has become appealing to big business.

Credible brands are utilizing social media to reach old customers, gain new ones and build or maintain credibility and reputation among consumers. In recent years social mediums have drastically grown. This has tremendously increased the number of consumers that producers are able to reach. Social mediums have not only grown in popularity with the increase in consumer participants, but social mediums have also expanded globally.

So, why do people like to follow a brand or product on social media? Give your ideas.....

Most people follow association in the open space because they feel that they exude the same persona as what the brand does. Its a cult following!!

Its very natural to show such associations with pride and that too on a social platform that has the word "the world is watching me" attached to it!! I am identified with the brand that I follow and hence it has a very enhancing effect on me as a person. It is a very with it kind of thing!! Interesting ideation Meena particularly when brands are really getting active on the social media. I wonder what happens to sites that have people ranting and raving like mouthshut.com particularly!! That is a review site and is dedicated to consumer opinions. That would be an interesting idea, what say?? Thanks for the referral :)

i agree with Mr Bhave .If we talk abt open space social media so to say,  it becomes very easy to identify brands attributes as feedback is provided than and there by multiple users (including some of your close once) whereas if u talk abt television there is no feedback abt any particular brand... time has changed now, this era would also see a revolution in web which will be Web 3.0 where in recommendations will play a vital role, it will help big companies to get in more revenues and fan following. Online advertising will grow in the coming time

I do completely agree with Mr. Bhave. On social media, we are judged by what we say, how we say it and who and what we associate with. It is very important for us to maintain a social status, and that can be achieved when our contacts see us following big brands. As we do not get the whole picture online, we jump into conclusions by what we see infront of us, and the verdict is declared. We need to be in the society, not out of it. The rest is tacitly understood.

Do you know communication is the key in social media branding too. And communication is a both a simple and complex process. Hence social media branding becomes a question of understandability of the communcation-receiver than the giver.

Social media has become the new "tool" for effective business marketing and sales. Social mediums are not only a way for businesses to interact with consumers but also a source of networking and communication between people. Popular networking site including Myspace, Facebook and twitter are social mediums most commonly used for socialization and connecting friends, relatives, and employees.

Thus people get a common platform where they can come up with their queries & discuss with others to get it clarified. Moreover it is easy to discuss online & gather more information within a less period of time.

People usually follow a brand in FB, or twitter or any social media, because the brand that create impact on consumers to follow, the products attributes makes consumers to like the product. i haven seen user put like or comment on product, brand carries values along with it. a properly positioned product create a good impression in the mind of consumer. companies are getting good rating and ranking because of this in the social media. brands like ebay, amazon, Nichesuite created good impact on society by delivering valuable service for its customers.

The main reasons are access to exclusive deals or offers. It helps the customers to understand how to interact with brands in the digital world and create better customer experience. Digital experiences create customers, who actively engage with a brand in digital fashion are much more inclined to purchase products and recommend the brand to others. Digital can make or break a brand. Digital experience, either positive or negative , can change the opinion of a brand.

Health care brands are ideally suited to social medias, example: health care systems & hospitals, home health services & products, medical devices and equipments, nutritional products.

social mediahas a very powerful impact,because if shopkeeper says this brand is not good than no body willbuy it.so it is shopkeeper to be satisfied by the supplier so social things are very practicalthey should be taken seriously.

Snob Appeal and Self projection

People want to affiliate with a brand on social networking site for the same reason they buy it - to feel good about it and to let other's know about the "brands" they buy. It's about the "Snob Appeal"

For a few people it's about what the brand projects - For eg - Nike - Just do it,  Adidas - Impossible is Nothing.

Creating a brand is like creating a person - it has it's own characteristics and a certain projection according to the target market it focuses on. Eg Pepsi focuses more on the Young crown and Coke is more a universal appeal.

Established brands manage to maintain characterisation on a consistent basis - and hence the people who adhere to that group form a sort of elite group in itself. eg Vertu

In short - A brand is a projection of one's own self - it projects everything a brand projects.
