There are so many people who need a psychatrist. We can understand it from the way they talk and the points they make. One does not need to be mad to go to them. There many other disorders which have bad effect in long term. Why do such patients and in most of the case their family members do not want to go to the psychatrist?

Unacceptance

They just do not accept that they need a little bit of therapy. This worsens the condition.

Psychological defects aren’t very easy to detect unless it is acute or has crossed a threshold or a total breakdown, few medical test are possible like EEG and thyroid test. Every human being undergo Anxiety Depression in every phase of life.

What you can probe, you can learn to measure, and that you can measure, you may be able to control and manage

Psychiatry is still young.

I understand Bindu is from Biomedical firm it isn’t so easy to give an idea in this branch of medical technology.

many are worried about the stigma attached to them if they visit a psychiatrist.

That's a very logical argument and similar to the 'social stigma' argument of S.Kumar, and 'fear of exposure' argument of S. Muralidharan.

Thanks for the referral Joydeep.

The first thing a person with psychological disorder has to do is consult a psychologist and not a psychiatrist. A psychologist will guide whether a visit to a psychiatrist is necessary. A psychologist will not give any medicines but will be able to diagnoize whether it can be cured by counselling or through medicare. Blieve me, half the problems are sorted out with counselling.

BECAUSE THEY THINK PERSONS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR MENTAL DISORDERS ONLY NEED TO GO TO PSYCHIATRISTS

idea posted by PS Dhingra CEO & Vigilance & Transformation Management Consultant, Dhingra Group of Management & Educational Consultants

Thinking of people with mental disorders and those who are responsible for those disorders differ entirely. There is no major cause for a person to get mentally affected except on account of the behaviour of people and environments surrounding that person, which tend to make him or her mentally ill. The people whose behaviours are really the cause of mental disorder of any person think that the person with mental disorder needs to consult some psychiatrist, while the affected person thinks that the other persons, whose behaviour had been intolerable to him/her, need the consultancy from the psychiatrists or someone who can make him/her realize that he needs some respect or recognition. In fact both need to make proper adjustment with each other's mentality & behaviour. If that happens, I don't think any need would arise to consult a psychologist by any of them.

Most psychological disorders stem from psychiatric conditions, in acute phase they are incurable, and is not detected earlier, it isn’t like malaria or Typhoid, Psychiatry is still a developing medical science, medicines can suppress the condition (symptoms) to large extent making the person into a vegetable, if he stops or skips medicines there is a finite chance of relapse.

Most of these people cannot cope with their surroundings, they get isolated, visiting psychiatrist compounds the problem by adding social stigma so people avoid medical help, moreover it needs very careful counselling which does not happen in India, rehabilitation is a bigger challenge in semi civilised countries like ours. Here human concepts like personal space, dignity, pride, abundance are Oxford / Cambridge dictionary words. Most people in this part of the world grow up with a childhood experience of scarcity which acts as a contributory factor for people not availing psychiatric consultation though they have the resources.

Thanks very much for your valuable input, shri Dhingra ji. I've given my views for psychological disorder. In my view, I have addressed about the persons who look so normal under ideal conditions, but react spontaneously on issues they don't like, unmindful of situation. This does not hold good for insane or who are suffering from serious mental disorder.

The one who suffers he or she only knows the pain. Its very easy to say all these bookish languages. We must try to understand others prroblems too. Coming on to treatment I would say that it needs care and counselling only.

People with psychological disorders enjoy their own world, they dont want to come out of it. The real problem lies here. Most of the time they are as normal as all other. Due to chemical imbalance in the mind, their reaction to certain situations is abnormal. At the same time they dont react abnormal to every situation. As such they believe they are perfectly alright and reluctant to see a Psychiatrist.

I've come across a number of subjects in the past. There is a fear of isolation and propaganda that would keep them away from the society could be one of the many factors! Most importantly, such behaviours I've noticed in married women, who have sense of insecurity from the married life, sometimes go berserk!

In many situations people are not even aware that they are suffering from some psychological disorders. Even after knowing they don't go to psychiatrist because of Social stigma. In India the people with psychological disorders are seen as untouchables. This fear keeps them away from seeing doctors which leads to increase in the disorder. So it is necessary to create awareness about this.
