Many people want to start a home-based business so as to earn extra income and for these people, MLM and other aspects of direct marketing is the way to go. But all of them cannot resist the lure of Multi-Level Marketing. If a statistics is taken of how many people succeed compared to how many “fail,” you could draw the conclusion that most fail. so, why do you think many people fail in Multi-Level Marketing?

Lack of experience in MLM strategies

idea posted by Savita Dalvi Sales/BD Manager, IBM-Daksh

Inexperience is probably the greatest reason why most persons will end up not making money in MLM. People usually join Network marketing but they may not know how to market their opporunity. People fail to resale which lead them to pile products and again discouraging them. That’s due to inexperience at work and a lack of marketing techniques. When MLM trainers and companies fail to teach their new distributors how to market effectively and profitably, they set them up for failure.

We do not develop our so called left and right legs professionally. On paper it looks very nice the way it grows exponentially. But we proves ourselves as paper tigers in not supporting our colleagues in terms of motivation, giving inputs, etc.

At times we tend to feed our left and right legs rather than helping them to feed themselves as we should teach how to catch fish but not to donate a fish when our left/right is hungry? Having discussed hungry, let's also understand how hungry our left and right legs or else if the guys are not hungry, they are not going to work hard which is a very typical Indian mentality

Self-Discipline makes MLM successful in developed countries and unless and until we self-discipline, we cannot be highly successful in MLM

Ya savita mam is right beside that if some one follows the rule one by one he or she surely get good bussiness rules means steps like presentation then followup i have a god experience of multilevel marketing and right now i become one of the trainer for the new comer. rather than that multi levelmarketing wants steady and cointinue working. Actually whathappen is that those who ome and jon think that they earn money i a night and become a idol for other bt tey foret about the had work. And one of the eason for failure is that they doesn't kow there product completely. So how they can do bussiness.

Impatience

idea posted by Purvi Ghosh Marketing analyst, Percept Advertising

I think, people entering to a new MLM business thinks it as easy and finds opportunities in rolling money due to impatience, planning on their returns. They see high profits for their investment, but in practical they fails because their returns may lack a momentum. Once greed sets in with any of up line or down line this will ruin the infer structure and cause people to systematically drop from the opportunity.

Perhaps in that, may even loose some good contacts.

Lack of Conviction & commitment

idea posted by Makrand Bhave Marketing & MICE, WIZCRAFT International

When you begin the MLM, you are full of zest and there are probably $ signs in your eyes. lets be very factual to oursleves and admit that MLM sounds and looks very lucrative and hence those convinced want to make the most out of it asap.

The way forward is very clear once you have decided to aquire the products. It is all a matter of networking. Why people lose their way is when they fail to realise that what got you interested may not exactly sound salivating to the other especially if the other is a friend!! I mean that friends is where one begins. Would you prefer reference calling?? NO...

This is the reason why it fails. Networking and convincing are the two main issues. Once you have a string of negatives, you loose the freshness of making it big. You loose your commitment. Ask Insurance agents and you will know exactly what they do. They have a commitment that they adhere to - "INSURING YOUR LIFE FOR A BETTER FUTURE". In MLM its making money by putting in that little EXTRA!! Thats the difference!! Interesting debate :)

Sure , though greed drives them towards the business model with quick money, lack of conviction laeds to loose commitments and then to half hearted and leathergic efforts

Lack of inerpersonal skills

idea posted by Rajesh Yerra Sales Executive/Officer, GRT Hotels & Resorts

One should have strong interpersonal skills to communicate with a prospective customer and convinve them of the rewards of the MLM business which is invloved in a product. One should be aware of the product and thorough knowledge of the course of business which is followed thru so that one is confident of what they are going to convince the other

Yes, there is a need to educate the consumers of the benefits of MLM , one would also use product communication and product knowledge to achieve the same.but the moot point here is how many big FMCG Companies would be willing to try the MLM model as a tool of change environment.

Most of the FMCG (expect for few like HLL & P&G )are today willing to foray into MLM models, this is primarily due to the fact that their existing distribution channels whether two tier or three tier have become so powerful on their own that if these distributors/Agents /wholesale dealers sneeze the company will get cold feet.

Many a Manager in these FMCG,S which I had worked have risen to their current position because of the recommendation, push & pull of these persons who are both politically and financially very influencial.

A day is not far off when mid sized companies in India can through proper training and support to the MLM model give the bigger c ompnies in the same product category a run for their money

Common mindset of the public

idea posted by Saravanan Gopal Application Developer, I | Nautix
  1. Most of the people who join a MLM Company, have the mindset of becoming richer quickly. For e.g If the Company offers a commission of Rs.500 for a matching pair below his down lines means, they were eager in gathering the people and matching the pair and not checking whether the company is registered in IDSA ,provides good quality products and services.
  2. More over if a person approaches a neighbor/friend/third person with his company's products means they think that he is going to brainwash us and one day this MLM company will run away with our money. This mind set is because of the MLM history in India.

No adequate Capital to grow business

In my view, Under capitalization is an another cause. Sure people don’t need much money to get started in MLM, but do need SOME money in business to advertise both themselves and their products or business opportunity. Whether the business is mainly carried on online or offline, one may need advert campaign or the other to get you noticed. Additionally, for making monthly purchases or expenses, one may need money or has to wait till they earn back their investment that might take some time or months to recover.

I dont know, how many of your tried your hand yourself before giving so many advices :), As per leading Networking Marketers , the one of biggest reasons to fail in any subject of life, leave network marketing alone, IS NOT KNOWING YOUR WHY ? means, you are not clear about your goals, dreams incase you have, INcase you are emotionally attached to your dreams, come what may, U will NOT STOP, consistency will lead you to definite success

I have seen many times that the leaders only could make money from the MLM and it is not going down in the downline. The leasers should address the fact and in case of their failure the promotors has to ensure it. The things are going on the sane way as the fund from the Indian Govt.

Depends on aptitude too!!

idea posted by Dr. Siddharth Varma Professor, International Management Institute

I think a person's success in MLM business would also depend on his/her aptitude in doing such business. Everyone is not cut out for such jobs. I can tell this from my own experience. There was a time when I considered doing MLM. After some time I found I was just not made for it. Telephoning people, asking them to attend meetings all the time was just not my cup of tea. So, I think one should have an aptitude for such jobs in order to be a success.

Hi, In short , following are the pratical resons to fail :

1) lack of patience.

2) low comunication skill.

3) not to target correct person for creating chain

4) person enter in MLM to see high return in short time (by paper calculation) and when u com in field he knows the reality that this job required top communication skill to impres other and strong network of friends to friendsss.

5) Main point is that , not take MLM seriously specialy house hold persons.

Indian consumer is discerning.

idea posted by Azhar Kazmi Professor, King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals

Indian consumer is discerning and so doesn't have much faith in MLM. Prefers to buy established brands from known suppliers. Places much stress on value for money. Most products sold through MLM are fancy products like cosmetics et al. that have reliable alternative sources of supply.

Yes,while I agree that the indian consumers are a discerning lot , its only a matter of time probably a feww years from now that as the business of multi level marketing grows and takes deep roots in India  the Indian consumers will adapt and accept this buying & selling model.

Branded FMCG products are now finding it damn difficult to recruit & retain talent at the salesman or sales executive level , in many cases the position is vacant and the ASM doubles up for the task, which would  normally create gaps and would not  fulfil the objective of equitable distribution & product communication  in the  rural areas. These companies will have to rethink on using Multi level marketing strategies at various levels in marketing  to fill these gaps, as is being now tried by HLL and some others.

The important factor to realise is that companies should not be impatient for results and also make investment in this channel on advertisement and communication in order to educate the Indian consumer of the benifits and convienience of MLM model

personal image x knolwedge x commitment x activity = result
