Growth in the corporate sector, assuming similar quality of work, is based on how well you gel with your colleagues and superiors (camaraderie) and on how much of your personal life (work-life balance) are you willing to sacrifice for your career. Given senior management is mostly male-dominated, it is relatively easier for guys to establish a good rapport at work-place and guys are generally more accessible to work nights and weekends, as compared to girls. I am simply pointing at the general trend here and I have seen exceptions as well. My first manager (and the best manager so far) was a woman and she was quite talented and decisive and she grew within the organization at an incredible pace. At the same time I have worked with girls who would leave office at 1800 hrs while the whole team was swamped and later cribbed about not being promoted. You can't have the cake and eat it too. I believe everyone needs to be treated and indeed judged on equal parameters. If an individual has proven himself/herself to be an asset for the organization and fits well in the culture of the organisation then growth should and does follow. The male ego question definitely comes into the picture but it's significance is diminishing fast and with companies getting increasingly competitive and pressed for bottom-line growth, acquiring and retaining the right talent is becoming top priority for all companies and sex of the individual does not exactly play a very significant role in that regard. I haven't worked for Indian companies so I wouldn't comment on it, but globally speaking I think gender-bias is much less significant and is soon going to be a thing of the past. IMHO :)

Yes, as you rightly said that somehow male ego is responsible to gender bias but i am fully disagree on the reason given by you that they couldn't see lady professional leading them. Reasons, their psychology, behavior and expectation from lady professional are few as there many others to think on.

So it may be necessary that some bias may exist - come which way!

Today there is no such thing called gender bias.Girls too are competing in every field with boys, sometimes even outshining them.People today have also widened there thinking.
However exceptions always remain.
