Recently I got to read an intresting article on energy effeciency. With an investment of US $10 billion dollars in energy efficiency improvements, India's economy would benefit from its potentially vast annual energy savings of 183.5 billion kilowatt hours, according to a new report from the World Resources Institute (WRI).

As per studies India’s energy demand is expected to more than double by 2030. There is a dramatic need for domestic and international energy efficiency technology providers, service providers, and equipment manufacturers to develop innovative ways to conserve energy. If ESCO can itself save India 183.5 billion kwh, then what other measures we can take to be energy effecient?

1 ESCO has a potential for vast annual energy savings
2 Use Solar & Wind power, Use LED lights instead of existing convensional light sources
3 Of about 1000 billion units of electricity produced annually, only 600 billion units reach the consumer, where as the reporte
4 Energy efficiency by the common people for the nation.
5 Star Campaign is also energy saver
6 A lot of stress should be put on Solar, Wind, Hydro, Biogas and other renewable sources rather than conventional.

ESCO has a potential for vast annual energy savings

idea posted by Vineet Prakash Sales/BD Manager, Tata Power

ESCOs operate on the basis of energy-performance contracts, where in revenue is earned based on the amount of energy cost savings produced. The majority of ESCO efficiency projects have payback periods of less than two years, and ESCOs save clients an average of 20 to 25 percent of baseline energy costs.

Investors and other stakeholders should invest & consider this as a good business model. We have to spread the awareness on this, specially for corporates & other business hubs.

Why do not you please write an insight on ESCO.

If every person think about green energy then it is so easy save the power approx 70%

nice idea but govt. should have to think about it.

lOf about 1000 billion units of electricity produced annually, only 600 billion units reach the consumer, where as the reported energy shortage is over 100 billion units. It is found that the saving potential for the  country is over 200 billion units.

why so big  letters ?

please  mention  your  production , consumption in  ' QUANTUM / hOUR '

1000 Bn unit / hour = 1000 Mn MWh = 1 Bn MWh

global  capacity is only  0.5 Bn MWh

Energy efficiency by the common people for the nation.

ESCO is doing very well in energy efficiency field but is working for  industries corporats and big projects. In India if we can able to spread the message "One unit saved=Two unit generation among the common people onether billion KWH could be saved. Our govt is giving subsidy on LPG for domestic users but now it is  time to give more subsidy for solar cookers / heaters.75% people are still going for cheap local electrial appliances.Govt should compelled to every manufacturers of electrical appliances to get Star Rating from  BEE.and let the people should know the meaning of this star rating in their regional langauges.

NOW  FUEL USED  300 KG / MWh

ANDY DESIGN  100 KG / MWh

FUEL SAVED 0.2*20*360 = 1440 T/MW/Yr

SAVED COST 1440*200 = 288,000 UIS$/Yr/MW

I do agree with that. Government should give and/ or increase the subsidies on the other alternatives of electricity such as solar cooker and solar batteries etc. And one more thing there should be some plans to make the common man aware about the global situation of drastic decrease in energy. By this mean perhaps we would be able to save it.

Star Campaign is also energy saver

idea posted by Sudeep Tarafdar Senior Consultant, IBM

I think govt's energy saving programme " Star Campaign" is a useful way to save energy effeciency. Through star campaign everyone will be able to undertand how much energy is needed to utilise an electric equipment. As ESCO, Star Campaign is also a good way to reduce the unwanted usage of energy.

The government has the resource and courage to start these renewable forms of energy. The private investors, invest only where they see their profit. So initial steps should be taken by the government, & surely the private investors would follow.

Strict adherence to traffic rules:

idea posted by Gopinath Venkatesan Student, University of Oklahoma, Norman

1) Avoid traffic congestion by following traffic rules. It takes nearly half an hour to enter/leave into/from a (major) city limits. It could not only save energy but also lessen pollution exposure, 2) Use public transportation if the terminals are nearer to workplace.

when converted to MW

 PP- 500,000  MW = 0.5 Mn MW

OIL   500*12 Mn HP= 6 Bn  HP= 4.5 Mn MW

TOTAL POWER = 4.5+0.5 = 5.0 MN MW
