Need to be more serious

idea posted by Anil Kumar Jonnalagadda Product Head- Medical, Sony India

India is known for its best brains, and doctors in India get exposure to a lot of problems that can only be heard and less felt in developed world. aside our paramedics and nurses are trained to compliment doctors expertise. And all of this at a much competative price!!! isnt it interesting and attractive for insurance providers abroad.

Not only Insurance, its also cosmetic treatments like plastic surgeries, dental & maxillofacial procedures where patient will be spending only a fraction for getting the procedure done in India can be sold if projected and marketed in right way.

As mentioned, before our economical manpower is our biggest assert and low infrastructure cost compliments it.

At the same time, price cant always be the winning point. We are yet to be geared up for the war. If we consider the number of hospitals with international certifications to the total number of hospitals, we are far behind other countries in Medical Tourism race.

Telemedicine and medical videoconferencing have to be put to better usage in developing confidance and enhance manpower efficiency.

We need to start selling value along with price. for which our hospitals need to start homework first. We require more hospitals with international standards to increase our visiblity in international arena.

Last but not the least, just like we have special economic zones where one can get sops from government for establishing a factory exclusively for export, why not the hospitals serious in race approach government and request to recognize Health & Medical Tourism as a seperate industry altogether and request for special facilities and benefits. After all a dollar earned either in exporting products or services is a dollar earned by India.

Hi Mr. Ajay, just because a few people prefered medical facilities abroad, that does not mean we dont have capable doctors. i have worked at field level and have seen the work style of doctors in india and abroad as well.

i strongly advocate we have very good doctors.

While I support the idea of integrating alternative medicine of India with medical tourism, I dont think this industry needs to be "subsidised" by way of SEZs. On the contrary it needs to be taxed so that some of this tax money can flow back into creating rural medical services infrastructure. India has very poor Dr to population ratio in towns with less than 50000 population. Hence any government policy should be focussed on improving this ratio rather than improving ratio of US certified super speciality hospitals!

dont you think our doctors are doing a good job in working with the bare facilities available in public health centres and government hospitals?

to attract foreigners , the key is to provide good service, low cost, easy link to holiday destinations.. that is where india stands out.... it has wide natural reserve... the ayurveda. foreigners find india very cheap and good destination to spend your holiday....

World Class Treatments

idea posted by Bindu Narayan Product Development Manager, Care Biomedicals

I believe that when it comes to health care, safety is the foremost concern. The hospitals in India are well equipped with the latest technology and houses highly qualified and experienced staff who can provide timely and quality medical treatment to patients. Many hospitals in India have international accreditations that certify the quality of health care service.

Minor factors these increase compettive edge of Indian hospital over similar ones:

-post operative care

-Alternative medicine (yoga, Ayurveda)

-Word of mouth to those who do not subscribe to managed healthcare plans

-Low cost travel relative to SEA countries

factors driving medical tourism in India:

1) Availability of highly qualified doctors and support staff

2) Low cost structure in comparison to cost of managed healthcare services in US

3) Augmenting effect of reverse brain drain, collaborations b/w US medical institutes with Indian ones.

Naturopathy, yoga, Ayurveda and many such health treatments are unique to India. This is our strength, and obviously we should play by it. These treatments combined with tourism strategy will enable medical tourism to flourish in India.

Yoga and Spa centers

idea posted by Sanjay Saha Product/Brand Manager, Dr Reddy Labs

In my opinion Yoga is attracting a lot of tourists to India. India is the birth place of Yoga, which is one of the most popular forms of exercise and rejuvenation today.  There are almost an infinite number of Spa and rejuvenation centers in India that could uplift the mood and enhance health of medical tourists.

But for surgery we need to stick to allopathy.

Further it was a sciece prevailing in India since from the aintiant period. Government is promoting it as tourisam activity too. All these factors supports its popularity amoung world countries.

idea posted by kawaljit kaur pgdbm student , Mount Carmel Institute of Management

before just making any assumption ,one should take a look at the kind of industry that is reason for such a surge in indian medical tourism.the major part of it comes from the infertile couples who get womb seggregated for a nominal price which is way less in comparison to their own country, poor people are being lured into it by  promising amount of  money  .trend isn't any different in organ transplants either.day isn't far enough when india would be acknowleged as outsourcing hub for childrens and organs.it doesn't mean that one should not credit our medical teams and local doctors they really deserve a fair share of praise for performing their best besides the adverse conditions.
