The global financial meltdown separated the chaff from the grain, managers from leaders. And when recession happened India was somewhat least affected but the developed countries. And also in the recent times we have seen more and more Indians as CEO's heading in most of the biggest MNC's. And even the case of passing the baton in an organization, they need not look anywhere else, they can get their successor within their organization. So, why Indian Co's have strong Leadership in the pipeline?

Shrewd Business tactics

idea posted by Darshana Sawant HR Manager, Leading IT services company

I mean I read a debate today on Toostep something like "Are Indian people cheap??".  And that Idea striked me like anything, I readily agree we are cheap and we valure more of our money like anything and we don't spend like a fortune on anything, before buying anything there will be 100 thoughts behind it and this has somewhat come in the way we do our business else where, and in the end of the day it doesn't matter how much you have spent, what matters most is what how much you have the bank balance, and people go for someone who plays his card very close to his heart and never gives out anything.. and these shrewd business tactics which we have inherited is making things easy for us interms of leadership.....

Indian Mangers have real practical thinking and implementation ability which makes them stand forefront in leadership skills and leading from front. It clearly says because many MNCs are lead by Indian CEO s successfully. We Indian have ability to foresee and ready to face either side of the coin with full efforts and win. So I feel Indian are always superb in leading and surviving!!

Indians typically make good crisis managers. They think fast on their feet. They are also able to view each and every risk for both opportunities as well as negative impact.

The recent economic slowdown impacted less on india because we are more in to a service industry than anything else; particularly in the ITES sector.

Bottom line - Indians are survivors!!

Blood and genes has to do a lot with it.

It is in our blood and genes. It you remember when we used to play every one wanted to become captain of his team. Why because he had ideas and he wanted to use them according to his whims and fancies. No doubt it was a childhood act. But if we see it closely than why everybody wants to become captain of the team. Not only because everybody will answer him but because he wanted to win and win according to his ideas. Good refferal Darhsana Ji.

Yes its in our genes.......History has proven that indian subcontinent had the max. no. of kings and rulers .....this and our epic called Mahabharata....if read properly teaches you how to think, act and earn....these are the basics of leadership and Management. So obviously Indian will be superior(to my view) to others especially in crisis......periods or when instant and immediate judicious decisions are to be taken.

Also one more factor to considered is we (India) are just 66 yr old independent country this for becoming globally acclaimed is a very small period....when studying other countries. We have to still progress and this quality of leadership will make us "the supreme "

Eventhough the argument of Dharshna seems valid, it is more to do with our genes. Remember we are brought up saying that you are the king of this country, you are the leader, you must be one step ahead of the neighbor etc. This makes us to think out of the box. Also our environment is again a major factor. We people live our lives with all kind of problems. E.g Traffic problems, everywhere we discuss about the problems and give our thoughts for solving or make it complicated. Also if our parents are business man then they like us to be their heir for the business and teach us how to be competitive from our young age.

These makes us to be a leader by ourselves.

You could say that it stems from Indian companies being noticed for their good or improved business practices even though some Indian companies still need to work on how they operate and treat employees. There are some Indian companies that are good and some that are bad but you can’t let the bad outweigh the good.

Some of the good Indian companies have good business practices and they are good sources for innovation in talent and leadership. Many times some Indian companies are able to attract and retain good workers. Many times it’s all in the strategy & leadership that a company uses.

IdiaInc .. a breeding ground 4leaders- remember Mahatma

idea posted by ASOKE KUSARI Domestic Private Banking-Executive/Manager, A large leading PSU Bank - India

Hi ... everybody

Whenever we imagine a (World)Leader, Mahatma Gandhi comes in front. He is our role model ... ( trying to mix Bapu with our present day Corporate Leaders )

-- has  (had) no self interest to play ( own pay-package and bonus etc is not the topmost priority as has been  seen in the West )

-- not in search of glamour/ position ... country ( Co.) comes first

-- has no inclination for sons/ daughters/ relatives ( Raju of Satyam, India  excluded )

-- leader ... every where, whether in Johensberg or in India ( whether in B'lore or at Manhaton ,USA  . )

-- always for the people, may leave the premises when/ where anti-ppl measures are taken  ( interests of the the stakeholders of the Co. is of prime importance, not Dalal-street alone , issuing of Pink-sleep is the last priority unlike the Managers of the West

................................ India Inc may march ahead of the world, let us look for our inherent strengths which could not be explored due to "showBiz of Wealth" but has come out for world recession.

They are exposed by now. We are not cheap .... we are tolerant like Bapu. In any world survey, Mahatma will top the list of world leaders after so many years like Captains of IndiaInc. Thanks
