The most baffling thing about the Wikileaks Cablegate is the massive foot-shooting overreaction across the entire American political spectrum. Here in the rest of the world people and government have already moved on, because tilld date the cables are more shrug-inducing than explosive but US politicians are still in the throes of a bizarre frenzy of as if the world has fallen apart for them.

Why is America so furious about wikileaks??

I agree with you Natteraja. The Americans are furious since all their secrets are out and how they treat their allies is very clear in the wiki leaks. They have not spared even United Nations.

It is known that a lot of different things happen behind the scenes. The wikileaks issue has embarrassed a lot of people who never imagined that the details of their involvement will be exposed. Hence, there is a furious feeling. But it is not going to achieve any thing as the preliminary damage has already been done. Thanks for the referral, Natteraja....

Mr Natteraja, I agree with you. This is just the tip of the Ice Berg which has come out. There must be many more such stories. Thanks for the referral.

Dumb people are running the show

idea posted by Amrita Animation/Graphic Artist, Creative design

When something like this happens..it would have been better if they had neglected. What exactly do they hope to accomplish? Do they think that if they do somehow manage to convict Assange who was just a publisher and not the leaker—they will have eliminated the threat of Internet information dissemination forever? With every dubious move they are just giving free publicity and do Wikileaks a huge favor, when a dignified silence plus a few veiled threats would have been far more effective? Can they really be so stupid?it and behind their veneer of all-powerful control, most of the people who run things are not particularly bright. Hence we are seeing the whole thing blown out of proportion.

Yes Amrita,Dumb people are running the show.It is less information but more publicity, rather more rumours around. Just Information from some website/database,nothing is going to shake much. In fact,Wikileaks has been fovoured by people who beleive whatever givrn by Wikilieaks are correct.

Shift the blame...

What better way than this to shift the focus from the current economic woes that america is undergoing. There are no other countries like Iraq to invade. Iran is not to be dislodged easily especially after the iraq fiasco, so the easy way out is in the shape of julius asange and his leaks. Go after them till the american public is so incensed that they forget the problems they are facing currently. This has been the american tactic not just today but for ages and they seem to be successful what with such gullible public as theirs.

Certain "Confidential" remarks should remain confidential

idea posted by V. Srinivas Freelancer, Information Technology
All of us, in the course of our interactions have a formal view and an "confidential view". This confidential open assessment view though may not be formal and legalised, helps the other person in taking an opinion on matters. This holds true not only in diplomacy, I am sure even Indian Diplomats or those of any other country will be giving colourful descriptions of the people in whose country they reside. Problem is that if it becomes public it becomes embarrassing for both the host country. This can happen even at home. You may give to your spouse come colourful remarks about your off-springs. It may be totally true and totally valid. It will also can become totally embarassing if the child gets to know of it.

From many accounts, it seems that this noise over Wikileaks is much ado about nothing. These are just opinions of American diplomats that do not have much bearing on the security or anything else apart from embarrassing some foreign leaders.

Now, here in this situation as raised by amrita Why is America so furious about wikileaks? What i feel is, certainly america should be furious because it has done something and never wanted anybody know it. Am neither against to Julian Assange, nor against to america. Because for both of them there is some material purpose to do this. For india, we as a country should cautiously watch this and be more practical in handling USA.

"they" want convict Assange. and Assange is real hero who has raised his concern about US intentions (these intentions may be bad for some worlds and good for US, its a different story--but that is what driving here and it is very important also). I wish assange should become an inspiration for the TRUTH SEEKING PEOPLE / FIGHTERS.

Certain matters shall remain confidential as far as national interests are concerned. As you cant totally reveal your thought process in your mind to keep your personality intact, every nation will have the same right. You just can not ignore this fact. Wikileaks crossed its limitations and now facing the consequences of it.

The wikileaks have brought forward very complex cultural differentiation of Americans among comity of nations. But one thing is now very clear, they will think hundred times before putting an impressions of others in black and white. At the same time, the people dealing with Americans, have to be rest assured about his or her positive feed back.
