India just touched 700 million mobile phone connections in december, but today we are seeing the rise of smartphones like anything in India, and even smaller players are coming out with smartphones.  So, why is India today a smartphone makers delight? Do share your views on this people.

High smartphone adoption among youth.....

idea posted by Sonal Singh Project Manager, Nortel Networks

The propensity to adopt feature phones and smartphones is greatest amongst the youth and business executive segments, whose purchase decisions are driven by peer group influence and workplace usage patterns as well as larger disposable incomes and willingness to experiment with new technology. Also smartphone prices continued to drop through the year and as competition increased, devices were made available by vendors at successively lower price points.  This is the reason India today is a smartphone makers delight...

Youth is the Key power. Mobile marketer has understood this facts. you must have seen the commercial campaign by Vodafone. We are blackberry(BB) boys ...they just repositioned themselves. that not only White colour's are BB boys. Everyone can be a BB boy. Its the Era of Advanced technologies. Time to Grab the market with innovative VAS application. VAS will Rock in indian market. :)

Absolutely right! There are as well many other reasons for adaption of smartphone amongst youths which includes falling call/data rates making affordable/free social networking sites available on cellphone, a fashion of being always available/online on FB, Orkut/Twiter/etc...

Today consumers are not satisfied with what they have. They want the best, with multiple features and benefit from the dynamic changes in the Information and Communication technology space. Also increased spending among the growing middle class and youth and affordability of smartphone handsets are drivers in increased penetration of smartphone market

Indian customer are more price oriented. they want a smart phone with all sets of features with very low price. best example if Micromax.. Indian customer love to by Micromax instead of Blackberry..Samsung Nokia, Kabon, micromax .. all smart phone phone providers are trying to develop phone so that they can grab the market easily.smart phone providers are the growing smart day by day..

Increased data communication than voice...

During 1990-2000, we have seen revolutionary telecom changes in use of phone lines for data than voice. Similar trend is repeating in mobile communications too. Mobiles initially used for voice communication will now be used more for data traffic (though everything now is data only...). And hence the adaption is quite obvious or indeed required. And this may not only limit to particular age group, as expressed in Blackberry-Vodafone ad.

All smartphones have a strong glamour quotient associated with them. The Gen-NXT of India is very much fascinated by these and being a G-G ( Gadget Geek ) is a big style statement.

High sales... of course

That's what delights most businesses - smartphone makers included. :D :D

Or, are you asking for the reasons why Indians buy smartphones?

If so, in my not-so-humble opinion:

#1. Snob value - a.k.a. "I have the latest" syndrome.

#2. Genuine utility value & some entertainment value - the professionals who really need one because they have to handle things in disparate sections/locations and want quality entertainment as well.

#3. Only entertainment value - those who want a snazzy way of being social all the time, play movies & games, anywhere, anytime.
