Preparing to address renewed demand for their services next year, India's top tech firms such as Wipro and Infosys are scrambling to attract talent and are aiming to hire at least a quarter of new staff through employee referral schemes.

Wipro has doubled cash incentives for each new hire joining through internal staff reference from around Rs 20,000 paid earlier to Rs 40,000. Rivals Infosys Technologies and Tata Consultancy Services too are doling out more incentives to encoura GE those on their payroll to search for and bring in staff.

So, why IT co's are relying more on referrals for hiring??

Mutual Trust

Why IT companies... most of the private sector jobs prefer referrals than consultants. Anybody coming through a known source is always better. A known devil is better than an unknown angel.

This is not applicable for IT companies. Everywhere it is going on Otherwise consultancies will not be in this country.

Tis only on paper and a small persontage .... acutally tis like IJP where u look for internal referal ....If u count in numbers, as I said its a small portion of the overall people that actually get shortlisted and finally join an organization with referals... If tat wasn't the case we wouldn't hv walkins even today for middle senior level positions also

Cost Saving- is being done by not paying high fee to consultancies, though company spends money for referrals it is less than any consultancy fees. Checking attrition rate- In referral policies company always pay their employees after a year, which holds both referral and those who has referred for a longer time. Best talent match- An employee always understands better about his profile and his friends profile, unlike any consultancy which has comparatively lesser understanding about a person seeking job. Therefore, referrals can fetch the best match for the required job.

The Buck Factor

idea posted by Sujeet Vishwakarma Managing Director, RCA Group
The person refering a new employee, in case of referred hiring, acts as a punching bag for Company in case the new recruit turns bad. Plus the new recruit can be put onto an extra pressure from two sides, the system, and the Referer. Moreover, the new recruit comes with an accountable trustworthy backup employee working already with the company.

3 reasons I can think of..

1. Your existing employee knows what you are looking for in a suitable candidate better than most job consultants 2. Cost per hire is much lower 3. Companies can't rely on a few consultants. The business demand pushes them to try all avenues and obviously referral is one of them.

Initial background screening is not required, trusted resource. The referred resource is more technically realted with the requirements - So high potential to get "perfect match" at times

Ready talent available

idea posted by Diya Mehra Executive search, ABC consulting

Today organizations and HR honchos at tech firms, hiring through referral schemes means less trouble and an opportunity to hire ready talent. As referrals will be their friends or relatives who are working in some other company or just finished their college and organizations do not need to worry about the candidate regarding their background as its a referral by their own. And finding quality candidates by campus placements is very low, and one needs to train them and attrition is more, if referral is done attrition will be very less, and quality employees are an asset to any organization.

Positive results make them do so

The quality is better, cost is cheaper and speed in getting a right person, through referral is also very good. When Q C D is good, naturally any one will prefer. My personal experience with the consultants is bad. They just demand money and forget about quality. Time schedule they meet, but quality is at large. By referral I am happy, the salary is also just half.

1. It helps in reducing attrition rate as employees create for themselves a self sustaining ecosystem.

2. Someone who is referring, indirectly takes the responsibility of validating the suitability of employee for that post and thereby reduces half the burden of HR.

3.It fosters confidence of the employee as he is given significance in company building process.

4.It derives high level of perfection in selection process as invariably each employee is hand picked and scores over the typical mass rejection/selection recruitment.

When large number of appointments have to be made and the field is vast, referrals do help in selection process.

Retaining present employees and friendly and easy learning environment for new ones plus saving cost and time!

idea posted by wasim akbar lone Master in Finance and Control(MFC)
Well IT companies are again emerging out of severe financial crises and they have pretty good demand for more employees in future plus they may have to increase monetary and non monetary benefits to them as the competion for retaining talent will increase. So referrals help to motivate current employees and help to increase their belonginess to a company. Company may also save time and resources by referrals since they dont have to recruit more by conducting campus placements, advertising etc etc..........thanks
