Custom products tend to have premium price tags. This is partly strategic, but often due to economies of scale not being reached or custom production processes that are intrinsically more expensive than the mass production techniques. Scale could help this over time, but for now it poses a serious barrier to the adoption of mass customization. |

Thanks Sushmita for referral. I also think people want flexibility. Machines which are more amenable to change as per the production requirements will be preferred by the manufacturers. However in the case of materials cost factor may come in the way to provide special products exactly as per customer requirements.
thanks Susmita for referal.yes right now i think this is not possible to come to mainstream as still end user is more concernec with prices.just to give some example, last decade manufacturing industries were very much interested in special purpose m/c tools which was capable of performing designated opns only.but today entire scenario has changed and we hardly seeing any SPM's.moreover customisation requires specific needs all times which is difficult to obtain.

At present mass customization isn't mainstream, but the clear sign are there next market are heading. There are auto sector in US offering customized 2, 4 wheelers, and shirts in china. The present hurdles are premium price, input, unsuited technology and delivery. Some cosmetic changes can be easily mass customized and in use now. Huge potential market will draw the technology(soft wares, net,Manufacture & Logistic) for future trend of mass customization. Mass customization can also be improve lot in cost saving, quality, time and more green for environ from otherwise retro customization. |

Customization is the word of the day. Customization to a certain level is acceptable and beyond that it becomes fantacy. When we build a house each member of the family has his/her own visualization and wants. Very rareley we build a house satisfying 100% needs of all the members of the family. Why is it so, is it very difficult? Definitely not, but things may not fit into the place in a proper fashion or it may not be feasible. When you cannot customize a simple structure having 5 rooms to suit 4 members in your family, how can one customize a product to suit a population in crores. More than the price it is the taste of each person and that too the taste which is not constant, which keeps on changing every now and then. So it better to standardize a product to meet the comon man needs rather than customize and perish. |

In a contract manufacturing business model, the hiring firm approaches the contract manufacturer with a design or formula. The contract manufacturer will quote the parts based on processes, labor, tooling, and material costs. So, are contract... |
