Don't think so... Its associated with the OS Race

At present, the Office market is dominated by Microsoft, but Google is taking the market share away from the software giant. Further, various other suites like IBM’s Lotus Symphony, Apple’s iWork. OpenOffice and Zoho (a Web-based productivity suite) are available in the market, which provides various new features to its users. IBM's LotusLive iNotes are available @ $ 36 per user per year. Further, the company also offers $2 per user per month plan, which is available to existing IBM Lotus clients. |

Microsoft knows the market best, they are almost monopolised the OS market for PC, which gives them the key to sell Office Suite, I have recently bought a laptop and I was determined not to buy another Office 2010 license, so I have started off with Open Office, and I am enjoying it. All Office files can be opened and edited on O-Office, they render Office files accurately. I am not going the MS Office way any more.
It is now up to Oracle now owning Open Office to market their product, which will be a decider on whether this will really give MS Office a run for its money. We IT professionals only know about this Open Office Lotus SmartSuite etc, non IT ppl. have not hard anything other than MS Office, this gap needs to be bridged to really harden the competition.
Absolutely it is correct Ms.Mahalaxmi.
yes it is right

I don't think its Office Productivity Suite per say! Its the race between the OS. I am in India and am yet to find anyone non-msoffice tool being used on Mac, except entourage maybe, people still prefer MS-Office on Mac. On Unix flavours, yes, but thats because MS-Office hasn't provided a solution. If they do, I am sure, even that will be adopted very well! |

I don't think Google or any other company can surpass the dominance of MS products just yet. From a productivity standpoint its too much of a gamble for companies to trust/use open source products. While products like google documents/open office is evolving quickly, they are still in nascent stages to really compete with MS Office as an equal. There is a whole lot of customization with the new MS Office products and also the fact that documents created on MS Office platform are not truly backward compatible on other products like Google or Open office

Now Microsoft is equipped with Web apps. This is a very good online office suite comparing Google and Zoho. User Interface much matters for guys today. The Hotmail and Skydrive integration makes every single user to use the Web Apps. If they find it good, they'll definitely migrate from Google and Zoho. |
