The trend towards developing a green supply chain is now gaining popularity but most companies are still coming to terms with how this can be achieved and where do they start. Does the emergence of Green SCM provides an opportunity to review processes, materials, and operational concepts from a different perspective? Will this be of profit to the business? Why should a company adopt green SCM?

I am struggling to understand how, if Green supply chain can reduce cost there is no wide spread adoption of the same.My gut feel is that the business case doesn't stack up for green supply chain barring a few exception. Unless we make non-green supply chain expensive(green tax) we cannot make business sense of green supply chain

I do agree to shaju, green supply chain will reduce operational cost and it will also differentiate the company and its products in the market place.

Continuous improvement

Adopting anything new which is sustainable can be a step towards innovation. A common understanding of sustainability concepts, goals and objectives also provides a platform for continuous improvements.

Key Drivers of Green Initiatives

Guys - This is different for each segement.

The first segement which I like to put across is Logistics:

-Desire to Improve Customer and Public Relations
-Want to Decrease Fuel Costs
-Part of their Corporate Responsibility Agenda
-Financial Return on Investment (ROI)
“Both competitive pressure and marketplace perceptions will drive every major company to factor sustainability into their supply chain equations”

I dont understand why people are always afraid of incorporating sustainable concepts. Acording to me incorporating sustainable concepts into any business increases profitability. Similarly implementing green methods in your supply chain will decrease cost and add the value to operations.
