The biggest international sporting spectacle ever to head for India is just five weeks away — and the Commonwealth Games are still mired in controversy, inefficiency, bureaucratic infighting and delays. Even the anthem — composed by double Oscar winner A.R. Rahman of "Jai Ho" fame — is late. At a press conference on Aug. 16 meant to unveil the song, Rahman sang one line and then said the song wasn't quite ready.

So, why the CWG has gone horribly wrong?

Corruption..

idea posted by Shweta Nigam Asst. Manager/Manager -(NonTechnical), IBM-Daksh

This very act of fraud & deceit was the main reason for the CWG going wrong horribly. The delay & incompleteness of CWG highlights India's inefficiency & the attitude that its citizens carry. " Ho jayega' is what people kept on telling & in that duration 7 years passed but the CWG was not ready.

A very shameful act indeed..

No doubt.Corruption is one main and important factor.

I support for the corruption.

& Mr. Sanjeev , very correctly said about CWG. I support your views.

The main reason of CWG mess was the malafide intention of creating wealth for congress party through its leaders, that's why our PM is also sitting mum on this. It should be Congress Wealth Game instead Common Wealth Game. It has been also heard that congress has bribed 72 nations to the tune of $100000  - $120000 each (i.e 35 cr appro) to fix the venue in Delhi, India to loot Rs 70000 Cr - It was well planned corruption

idea posted by Manoj Kumar Sr: Manager - QA, ARCHETYPE GROUP, INDIA

Thanks for the ideate...This will happen only in India most probably...I am not against other reasons. Basic reason is corruption...But this is not new to us..atleast we are able to remember some big issues whenever corruption comes in the news...Remember BOFORS, HARSHAD MEHTA SCAM, MADHU KODE and the cheapest one during the purchase of coffins for  our brave martyrs in KARGIL...feel shame to say all as this is a public site...

I feel it is high time to change the entire indian penal code to book and punish these type of culprits within no times...But no hope honestly.....

We will talk all these here and sure we will ( The Indian public ) vote for these idiots again....What a silly

Poor Organizational capacity, weak structure in work methodology and inadequate follow up on the time frame. All this coupled with lack of integrity "the Greatest Indian Attitude" will lead to failure of Major Projects especially ones where it is required to deliver in terms of Quality and within time limits

Politicians are the main cause of all Mess in India. They have one point agenda " Garb Power to make money and make money. Patriotism is last in their agenda. No Court can Touch them because it is they who. who apoint the Judges. Unless People wake up and start beating and breaking their legs these thigns will never stop.

Politicians are interested only in money so they interfere only where they have chance to grab large amount of money.

We the common citizens of India are solely to blame for the "Mess"...We dont go out to vote thus making our vluable Vote a strong 'force' to reckon with...and we do not find the right candidates to help stand for Elections...then why blame others!!!

When politicians with dubious record call the shots , things are bound to go horribly wrong.

What GoI needed was clean officars to execute such projects with ruthless efficiency and not politicians

Discipline as also the efficiency travels from top.

Whenever, head of any organisation or establishment is weak or lacks understanding and focus, is inefficient or corrupt the results are as being witnessed. Expected results.....

@dear Shweta,

Corruption as well can happen and prosper whence the top is inefficient. In a disciplined efficient setup people do not dare getting corrupt.

You will agree

As long as there is no accountability , on one takes responsibility. This applies for all citizens involved directly as well as indirectly. Now where can we start from?

Statements by Bhanot, Gill, Kalmadi and the others were just indicators of the indifference prevailing. I mean who has different standards of hygiene? Or a statement like 'dhulan aaya....' I dunno who made money but one things for sure - this is typical of how sports is handed a raw deal in this country.

It the careless attitude and incompetent way of planning, managing and execution that ruined the games. If a person has little knowledge of project management then things would have been in better shape. But the organizing people had other objectives.

Consider the extent of political intervention and the corruption today. It is the dirty politician who doesnot allow any executive to perform his duty properly, is responsible for the present mess. Indians need to cultivate the habit of having faith in others capability and expertise down in the line. Even the best executive will do mistakes if there is intervention every time from others.

Unfortunately every one at the top thinks they are the only people capable and every project is there for them to make money. We should know we are not the sunjects in any kindom or being ruled by an outsider. Have faith in fellow citizens. Allow mistakes to happen if they happen in th process and give chance to coreect them to the executers instead of finding faults always in others work.

Every thing that happens in our life is finally happens through people. Government of India and Sports Authorities have not really given enough thought about right kind of people to associate with the management of an event like CWG. At one time westerners used to say it is Gods who is running our country. We have to soon realize it is finally in the form of men and women.

the main reason the CWG has gone horrible is because of its lack of Leadershipness in the Organising Committee.

Lack Of Leadership

idea posted by Jyoti Kapoor HR Manager, Cybage Software

Its agreed that corruption is the main reason fr the delay & the mess, but lack of leadership is another factor that creates a spiral effect & the entire process goes down. We actually lack good leaders ....& fools can never be a good leader.

And those who follow foolish leaders are no doubt the biggest fools ever.

I think the major factor behind the CWG Failure is Miss Managment. Our IOA and local Govt taken it lightly, and they dreaming they did a great job by getting the opportunity of organization of games. But they forgot the major challenge is execution.

Is wealth so essential? And the country? Perhaps.Indian are learning to pick up the trace of patriotism and on way they have slipped.
