Dispensible Income

idea posted by Shailena Varma Logistics Manager, Target

After the recession people have started having some dispensible income which they want to spend. Malls provide a better option where all varities of brands & products are available.

Dispensible income is the strong or vital reason for getting high numbers of footfalls in retail sector.

After recession people are in mood of spending & their sentiments are being tried & tested by companies at a very fast pace which inturns give rise to more brand launches & also rises footfalls.

Tie-Ups with Multi Brands

idea posted by Meena Deshmukh Product/Brand Manager, Videocon Inds

Retails are getting tied up with multiple no. of brands so that more crowd gets attracted. For people it is a benefit as they get all the desired brands under one roof.

Thus, tie-ups are also helping in the rise of no. of footfalls.

I completly agree with Meena. Malls have tie up's with all most all brands wich are available at less than MRP sometimes with an on going schemes facousing on special segments adding comfort level & rich buying experience to consumers.

Propensity to spend.

idea posted by Mathew Cherian Research Associate/Analyst, Western Michigan University
Propensity to spend or save and preferences along with wage expectaions, future wealth criteria, and wealth maintainence needs of citizen are the main 'drivers' of any economy. Indian wage levels are high and might be rising which makes the drivers work and propensity to spend rise and this inturn brings more consumers into shoping places like malls and shops which is the reason for increased footfalls in these places

Source of entertainment, pass time

idea posted by Anil Kumar Aruri Planning Manager, Shinsei Bank - Japan

As already pointed out, I am not sure if the spending has increased with increased foot falls. But more people do see malls as a place where they can spend time, kind of general entertainment as against nothing to do by being at home. They might also be seeing some differentiation among malls, some malls do attract more crowd (for whatever technical reasons that can be attributed to them) and hence could be perceived to be more fun a place to hang out.

The statement increase in footfalls?

Dear Shailena,

The concept itself is rather nascent in many cities so how is a comparison being made and with what, is not very clear.

If it is that addition of another high-rise in vicinity it is reported as falling. If we are comparing with Kirana stores then the Air-conditioned comfort shopping experience brings many and few the second and subsequent time.

In any case Footfall converting to buyers is of more importance.
