I think the main reason why US is liking India more than China though China looks a better option for US than India, it is due to the decision making process that China has, China is too conservative in its approach and Obama is extremely concerned about China's military development and its communism stature which could harm its relationship with US in future, and also US didn't like the recent google development where it is threatning to quit from china. All this has resulted in US liking India's rise than china's ascent at the moment, also it has to do with the stable government that is there and the democratic country and also India's active participation in most of the Global affairs has made US much closer to India than China. |

US is very much comfortable with India , due to adoption policy of any situation/ circumstances AND China is very much rigid on his issues and decisions and policies.

US may be more comfortable with India than with China because of several reasons the chief among them being that India is a democracy, has stronger institutions, has a comparatively better record in contract enforcement, has a relatively free media, etc. On China's part, they are a ruthless, undemocratic government, contract enforcement is weak, media is not free, and they have wider geopolitical ambitions than India has; have a bad record of coveting territory around, etc.

As per political ideology is concerned these two countries will for ever be at loggerheads.The only Communist bastion remaining in the world is China and after a 50 year cold-war against communism the U.S really wants to see China democratize.On the other hand China sees the U.S support for Chinese Pro-Democracy Groups,for Dalai Lama, for Taiwan and its general public opinion on democracy as the biggest threat to its political system. Economically too these countries compete with each other in the race for the earths natural resources. |

US is neither comfortable with India nor China. Both are political and economical threats to US, but as India's history we are not aggressive in compare of China. Also China is a awful friend. India is growing in a way without intervening anybody but for china its economic ambitions are directly colliding with US. Chinese are exploiting African countries and another oversees without giving a hand to US who's trying hard to keep its dominance in international politics.Its still difficult to penetrate Chinese market because of strict economic policies of Chinese govt. In near future they will be open rivals. Now China is a direct threat to US but India is not. So its not about ideologies its totally about international politics and business.

When cold war has been over, China emerged as a strong force before the USA to give strong competation. China is a permanent member in Security Council and poses as a challenger to them in all parameters.
