What is so worst about it? Any question asked with a reason is a good question. The task is to judge a person during that short interview period and these questions are just means to getting the task done. If you came across any other, then continue this posting.................
Question 1: Where do you see yourself in five years?
The answer given by the candidate would show how practical he is . A person with reasonable vision & sure about his abilities, would envision 2-3 promotions during five years. Anything less than 2 would mean that he is unsure of himself and anything beyond that would mean that either he is 'extraordinary' or 'over-confident'
Question 2: What is your biggest weakness?
The person who is not able to define his weaknesses can never overcome them. Candidates normally come prepared for it with some crap out of book. But an interviewer with some experience can identify whether the candidate is saying is true. A genuine acceptance of weakness is generally seen as a positive sign.
Question 3: Do you ever abuse alcohol or drugs?
Normally not asked so bluntly in India, but nothing wrong if the question is asked to a prospective BPO candidate who would be working late hours in Night call centres. The information might also be required if strict discipline is needed for the job at hand.
Question 4: What is the airspeed of an Jet Flying MACH2?
This is a standard tie breaker question. When all the candidates are freshers and the interviewer has to select one from equally good candidates. The interviewer is not seeking an accurate speed, but a smart answer to identify smarter candidate of the lot.
Question 5: How do you define sexual harassment?
Does anybody ask such question?? He can be prosecuted for the same under sexual harassment. It should be termed as 'Casting Couch'.
Question 6: If you were a ‘Lost’ character, which one would you be?
Again a standard tie breaker question.
Question 7: Can you work under pressure?
This question is a leading question. ie. a candidate would say 'Yes', the question that would follow is "give example of one situation where you were under pressure and how you managed to work at that time"
Question 8: Why did you take the pen from me?
I have never heard that such questions being asked during interview. But if the candidate comes without a pen and borrows it from the interviewer, it may create a negative impression on the interviewer.
Question 9: Have you ever brought a lawsuit against an employer?
This question is not asked in interview. But the same is checked while doing a background check of the candidate. Most of the companies would avoid any candidate who might bring up law suite against the company.
Question 10: What interests you about our company?
This shows whether the candidate has done his homework before coming to the interview and whether he knows about the job profile. No interviewer would like a candidate who has come unprepared for the interview.
