I just listed down these 15 ways to kill a start-up. Do you agree? All comments welcome!
I guess it is important to know 'what not to do' in your startup in order to succeed. I have tried to burn my hands as well, :), but somehow I could see the issues quite early for them to affect in the long run. Henceforth, I am just trying to put down this list and would love to hear if anyone has any more points to add!
Top 15 ways:
1) Loosing track of the actual vision of the company.
2) Do everything you think you know - If your expertise is development, focus on it. If there is a need for marketing, let the experts handle it!
3) Thinking investor is GOD
4) Targeting wrong customers
5) Isolating yourself from your employees.
6) Focusing on just building the product and not marketing it.
7) Starting with a plan you are doubtful of or become doubtful of, too early.
8) Having just one founder
9) Running at full speed without thinking - Don't expect to achieve right from the start no matter how solid you think your plan is
10) Shying away from Networking sites and tools
11) Reselling an existing idea with price as the main USP
12) Focusing on profit than the customers
13) Underestimating word of mouth
14) Compromising the quality of your employees
15) Not discussing your plan with people you trust.
