Hi,

Would just like to add a few to the above article:
Simplicity: The term simple is a very relative connotation, what is complication for you, may be very simple to other person or vice versa. Thus the approach here has to be, that logo should be such, which symbolises:
(1) Company Philosophy
(2) A logo which can go along with its sub-brands and logos also.
(3) A phneumonic which is universal in nature and does not depict any specific caste, creed, society, religion or nationality.
(4) Logo should be considered as an important selling tool also, and not just an abbreviation of company's name.
(5) Design of the logo should be strictly in sync with its product line. example, if a ROSE had been a logo of CATERPILLAR, one of the largest heavy cranes and mechanics manufacturing company, then i wonder how many people wudve really paid attention to Caterpillar !!, and lastly but not the least;

(6) The positioning of logo on various collaterals of communication should be carefully identified. a proper review should be done while deciding upon the location of the logo on any marketing element. be it print AD, TV AD, brochure website etc. An incorrect position can lead to loose the logo on the other communication text and design elements which are present on tht element.
Definitely educative. Thank you.

I suggest - getting a Trade Mark (Logo/Brand Name) search with the IP Office before adopting the Logo/Name - is any day advisable and remains a critical step.
