A Clarion Call to the Youth of India

K S VENKATARAMAN

Please treat this is as the call of our Mother Land India. She calls you to awake and arise. This is the expression of Her trust in all of you. She has chosen you all as Her last resort, after having been disappointed by others. You can change everything.

What we see around us: All of you know the rottenness of our political set up. We see day in, day out instances of alarming corruption. We hear reports of misdeeds aplenty. The poor are neglected, dominated, insulted and even made to pay the penalty for the wrong deeds of men in power. Justice is inordinately delayed, if not denied. Moneyed persons, criminals, politicians and dishonest officials very often combine to defeat honest, well-intentioned persons. Legal authorities are forced to turn a blind eye towards the malpractices of political bigwigs.

Most of you know from history books that the foreigners ruled us. Now the politicians rule us with direct participation of criminals and connivance of dishonest authorities. One or two well-known, honest persons are used as a shield to protect umpteen black sheep.

We know that the foreigners used the ‘divide and rule’ tactics to prevent the people of India from being united. The scheming politicians have done worse than that. They have cleverly divided us in the name of religion, region and caste; they have involved the poor innocent people by offering doles, only to safeguard their inflow of millions in tact; and made it almost impossible for the people of India to work in a concerted manner.

The politicians of India have kindled the regionalism in various parts of the country. Each locally influential politician wants to carve out a part of India as his own empire for his own sons and grandsons to rule! Today the Indian national unity is at great risk.

All the decisions of government are taken having the vote banks of the party in power; not in the common interest of the nation and people.

The growing science and technology demand one-world outlook. The whole world is becoming a global village. But instead of joining the mainstream of global unity, the people of India are made to move towards parochialism.

India is rich in resources. We have inherited great culture and literature. Instead of making Indian people realize their greatness, the politicians promote base instincts of communalism, regionalism and linguistic frenzy.

More than 60 years have passed by, since we attained national Independence. The politicians have seen to that we do not emerge as united, self confident and prosperous people.

The way our countries affairs are conducted has given room to inimical foreign forces to harm us. The have been emboldened to come within this country and deeply hurt us. More than offering useless lip service, the politicians are not capable of doing anything useful.

What Indian Youth Can Do?

You can install ideal government replacing the inert and corrupt people who have converted politics into family business.

You can drive out inefficiency, lethargy and crookedness; and crown efficiency and honesty.

You can chase away selfish criminals and give room for people dedicated to national welfare.

You can wipe out poverty and disease and pave the way for prosperous, healthy India.

You can stop the criminals from being a law unto themselves; you can prevent them from offering unholy services to politicians and dishonest, subservient officials backing them.

You can show the door to those who want to divide us in the name of religion, region, language and caste; and welcome those who are committed to work of understanding and harmony.

You can weed out the poisonous elements from positions of power and authority; and enthrone those who would work for the development and growth of India.

You can stop cunning politicians from resorting to election malpractices; and ensure that people elect only intelligent, honest, service-minded, efficient people to run our government.

You can remove hunger and poverty from this land and establish a strong and prosperous India.

You can bring back the lost ancient glory of this sacred Mother Land.

What does the present occasion demand?

We have waited for too long. Indian people have been taken for a ride for several decades. The dishonest politicians have gained confidence that they can go on like this for ever. They are under the impression that by their ‘rajatantra’ they have brought all Indians under their control. They think that one or two protesting voices would only be weak and need not be worried about. They believe that the support of criminals and dishonest officials would keep them safe, irrespective of the mischief they make. In short, they are cocksure that the Youth of this country are irresponsible invertebrates and total idiots.

The present occasion demands to prove that the Youth of India are bold, intelligent and efficient. You should prove that for the welfare of the Nation, you would unite and function as a cohesive, powerful force. You should prove that in every constituency you would make a responsible, educated and dedicated servant of the people to succeed in the ensuing national elections.

Please awaken, think and do something positive immediately

Each word you read just now has come from a truthful and patriotic heart. If you believe the underlying national spirit in them, please give some thought to all these and come out with whatever original idea that occurs to improve our Motherland. Let us do something about it.

The educated, committed youth of India can do a lot than the conniving, uneducated filth in Indian politics. I suppose Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi,Sachin Pilot and the likes could be some source of inspiration to cleanse the filth in the entire beauraucracy.

If all citizens perform their duties there would be no issues, but the corrupt try to convert the honest. My suggestion is that we should have "Right to Recall" our errant MPs, MLAs, Municipal Commissioners, Sarpanches, Panches etc.

In Switzerland, they have cantons, similar to our Zila Parishads, and the citizens of the canton can vote and recall an errant member. We should also have similar rights.

Matter of fact, Somnath Chattergee, our ex Speaker of Lok Sabha has in fact asked for such right to be given to the citizens.

To take our country forward, we must petition for "Right to Recall".

Very great reference. I have really enjoyed reading this reference. Indian can never claim that it is developed by showing GDP figures and the inflow of funds. There tend to be some development always. There is development in India too when we compare the present situation to the past. But, it is not sufficient and we need to go a long way. The author has rightly pointed all areas where we need change. Yes its true that educated should take the responsibility of correcting this system if it is not correct. We need good politicians and political system first. Only when we see the committed politicians, we can expect change and correction in the system. We, Indians, are so selfish that we never think about this society. If our system is not good, then, it is undoubtedly the mistake of ours and its our responsibility to correct this system when it is not correct. There exist easy answers to most of the problems we face now in India. Our political system can be corrected by curtailing right to vote to educated, our education system can be reformed by making public sector truly competitive, our judiciary can be reformed by laying due focus on quality in legal education and by curtailing the political interference in appointment of judges to constitutional courts, our castism can be reduced if we political parties part ways with the vote bank politics, corruption can be eradicated by laying due emphasis on moral education to the children and we can do manythings easily. What we need is committed politicians. We need people like Dr.Jyaprakash Narayan of Loksatta and Nandan Nilkeni who has sacrificed high high profile position to do something to this nation. We need many like our jayaprakash, nandan and the great abdul kalam. While UK protects and keeps its recognition intact on Stephen, we don't bother even if our great former president and scientist Dr.Abdul Kalam gets insulted. We need change as otherwise, Indian can never and ever become a developed nation. I thank the author in this regard. I am very very happy at reading this article.

Good article. I think two things that can help India to achieve glory are law reforms and education reforms. Law reforms for speeding up the conviction process. Education reforms for educating children who has to work to feed their family.
