GMC's success should pay way for Rural India to march on par with urban India. Thank you Darshana for this news. For the benefit of our friends, I am providing some more details about GMC. Gram Mooligai Company Ltd. was originally created as an off-shoot of a successful NGO rural healthcare project, entering the private-sector to expand its operations in harvesting local medicinal plants. The company is owned by a network of rural growers that manufacture a variety of herbal remedies including Trigul balm for joint pain, Sugam cough syrup and Jwaracin, a fever reducer. Gram Mooligai's unique competitive advantage is its synthesis of modern healthcare systems with local remedies familiar to rural households. The company sources its products from India's strong heritage of traditional healing methods and its rich biodiversity, with over 18,000 known species of plants. At the request of the then Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, they prepared a report on the success story of this Company to follow the suit during 2002. Unfortunately, the proactive Govt. lost the elections during 2004 and the report was conveniently thrown to dust bin. If not similar organisations would have born in the entire A.P. People of the state and the Country in general look for short term gains and never bother for long term gains. They vote for those who promise them everything for free without bothering for the consequences of these non-sense schemes. Poor Indians.

Thanks Darshana for sharing such an inspirational referral, I must say our country has great potential but but the poor are always ignored. If they do some good work they are remembered but for a very short time. Untouchability still persists in our country but in a different way which no body wants to recognize. Materialism has replaced the love in the hearts of the people which has degraded moral structure of our country. GOD has created us to help each other but we are doing otherwise i.e., why we are not able to prosper. What can not be cured must be endured or Nothing great can ever be achieved without enthusiasm. Happy is the man who develops the art of learning when young, we should try to help each other to gain the positive attitude which can prosper our country.

Thanks Darshana for the referral. At present I am reading a book called 'Worldly philosophers' by Prof. Hallebonner which throws some light into this phenomenon. This is soemthing like the Village co-operatives he describes initiated by Robert Owens in the 18th century prior to the take off of world consciousness towards socialistic movements of Marx and Engles. It was a complete failure.
Our country is concieved in the JS Mill philosophy where it deviates from mainstream economic philosophy in the sense it does not advocate economics as production and distribution rather only production not distribution. This is the plight of Indians now where we don't have efficient economic infrastructure following the Mills conjunctures.
These sort of village co-operatives and other ideas came up during a time when the world expecially England was facing trouble with the environment of production and social malfunctions.
I rather advice you to read the books 'Sophys world' and 'worldly philosophers' to get a clearer view of what our conscious level is regarding our environment.

Ghana is a country with an exceptional agriculture-based Economy benefiting the farmers in that country. I do not have the detail schemes and projection for a well-based structure for the same in India as my friends are busy in formulating one in the lines of Ghana's ever increasing agro-based Economy. I will post it very soon as it will benefit the farmers in India.

Thanks for the invitation, Darshana... *smiles* for you :)

Yes, this is most excellent. Thanks Darshana, for sharing. And thanx Srinivas sir, for the information.

Indeed, the fact that NO hue and cry was made about this organization - NEITHER BY THE MEDIA, nor by any governments - shows the poor state of thinking in our country.

WE INDIANS ARE VERY POOR INDEED. :(

Look at the hidden treasure of Indian villages and multi million business in poverty alleviation.Just convert each village to a Industry with reference to the resources available and man power. Each village have its own potential and needs to be harnessed. Only effort required is to design and implement.

Now a days it is very important for us to let villagers know that there are a lot of opportunity in village itself. Most of the Young generation thinks that there is no life in village and they migrate to Urban areas with this hope they will earn more and will live better life but they forget the diamond is in their village itself if they try to find it out.

Thanx for sharing this kind of things motivate those villagers who think that only metro cities have opportunities, if we can think a bit deferment we can create something which gives employment to us as well as others by which we can develop our area and gain self satisfaction
