A STORY ABOUT EVERYBODY

This is a story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.

There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Everybody was sure Somebody would do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.

Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.

It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

This is the psychology of every human being! Do you know in Hindu Mythology, every group has a "kul devata"! The idea is to focus on one force in order to get remedy at the time of distress. If we focus on many Gods, then each will think the disciple has multiple Godheads to support, and even if I miss him out, others would come to his rescue! Ultimately, he would be left suffering by everyone, citing others! Thanks Mr. Shrikant for sharing this insight!

I started to tell this story to my 9 year old son. He said, 'Dad, I know this story even when I was in first standard'.

human psychology nicely defined
Here is a story I heard in my childhood similar to this story. There was a king in a Kingdom. Once he wanted to know the mass psychology. Accordingly he ordered the citizens of his capital city to bring some quantity (no specific quantity was mentioned and left to the discretion and capacities of his citizens) of milk from each house and pour it in a big vessel kept in a designated place for the purpose and promised to keep the individual secrecy in the process. On the next day he personally visited the place where the vessel was kept for the collection of milk and surprised to see that the vessel was filled with water. There are no traces of milk in it. The reason for this would be like this - No one is ready to contribute a glass of milk instead they wanted to pour a glass of water with a presumption that their glass of water in a big vessel of milk makes no big change and filled the vessel with only water. This tells us that, if the responsibility is not fixed, nobody will be ready to take the responsibility.
