Agile Manufacturing....

Very nice new concept, of course a innovative one, Ms.Isha Verma.
However, the question is how to integrate and harness the various activities involved in the manufacturing process and distribution channels. But it can be best applied in areas of producing a particular product ranges that may be automated with various controls.

Good article isha.We had a chapter on Agile manufacturing in our engineering & i feel it is a very good concept in todays rapidly changing world of manufacturing but a good amount of expertise & use of technology is required to implement it. It is a tough job in country like ours as workers have to be cooperate  & willing to work in the required  way to make it a success.I think Toyota  uses it very well.

I went through this concept, As it sounds new to me. Thanks I came to know about agile manufacturing concept through you.

Here are my views about the author, because this concept is good. Author unnecessarily trying to convince that only this is the future. Just refer the below point;
   
"Why do we need to be agile: --

Customers are expecting:

1.)	Low volume product
2.)	High quality product
3.)	Custom product"

He should define customer first. According to him customers are only higher middle & upper class people(20 % ). 
Just see the middle class people (80 %) they cant afford customized product. 


Below is the on more imagination of author;

"Exercise

War has broken out somewhere in the world and the US becomes evolved. Suddenly all branches of our armed forces need more conventional munitions and they need them immediately. How can suppliers meet this kind of unpredictable demand."

Before the demand you must know what kind of demand may generate? Are they going to demand luxury car? no. there demand may vary from SUV's to HCV's for transportation. Their typical demand of tank & other armed vehicles can be supplied by specific suppliers. They will upgrade or Army will give some time to other supplier for development.
  
Can you prepare your entire company on one possibility? 

The author might be from marketing background or his vision for writing this article is not clear.
