Anand Kumar of Super 30, a beacon for poor children
IN THIS ERA of materialism, only a handful of people are doing yeoman’s service. Anand Kumar is one such shinning example.
People like Anand Kumar have been altering society with their noble work and contributions. In a country like India where corruption has percolated in every nook and corner of the country and system, hardly anybody bothers about people encountering poverty and discrimination. Anand Kumar, a young man from Bihar is a beacon for many talented students from economically weaker sections of the society who otherwise will fade away in poverty.
Kumar started Super 30 out of Patna in 2003 with the single objective to provide pre-entrance coaching to students from poverty ridden families for the prestigious IIT institutes. Thirty students from poor families are selected every year, they are provided rigorous coaching, boarding and lodging arrangements are also made.
Till now, Kumar’s Super 30 has produced 212 students for IITs. In all, 240 students have received coaching, the result speaks volume of this young man. Year 2008 to 2010 was a glorious period for the wonderful initiative of Kumar. During this period the institute provided 100 per cent result thrice on the trot. The magical touch came to end this year, however, the results were not bad, out of 30 students, 24 cleared the tough exam. An IPS officer, Abhiyananda and Kumar’s brother Pranav Kumar, are also playing commendable role in the success of Super 30.
Kumar’s initiative has been receiving accolades from not only across India but also from many prestigious organisations from overseas. Bihar government honoured Kumar with Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Shiksha Puraskar in November 2010. Leading news magazine, Time Magazine selected Super 30 in the list of best of Asia in 2010. Newsweek Magazine listed the institute among the four innovative schools in the world. Leading educational institutes like IITs and IIMs had invited Kumar to deliver lecture on his success mantra.
Many coaching centres prepare children for IIT exams taking fat fees ranging from 1 lakh to 2 lakh. Kumar on the other hand takes nothing and shapes the lives of many underprivileged children, it’s amazing.
Most of the billionaires in our country are engaged in making money, living a lavish lifestyle and building castles. Shame on such sarcastic human being, they should learn from Anand.
Talent is natural and it can be found in a kid born in a billionaire family and also in a kid born in slum. A talented kid born in a financially sound family has absolute freedom to carve out his future as per his/her wish while a talented kid born in an underprivileged family fads away in oblivion.
Hats off to Anand for his illustrious initiative. Our country needs many more Anand to bring about a change in the lives of talented kids from downtrodden families.
An excellent initiative and the result truly speaks for itself. There should be more such people but most of us are already entangled in our own lives...Thanks for enlightening us about this great man...
