Negativity can wear multiple facades, it can be seen, felt and experienced in many ways. It overpowers all positive vibes and leads our lives into turmoil.
Workplace Negativity is a common problem across the globe. It can rot the morale of the employees and drain the energy levels.
Negativity can be traced in the minds of the employees, which results in vile talks. It changes the thought process of an individual and makes everything appear negative. There can be multiple sources of negativity - mistreatment, misunderstanding, a feeling of betrayal, general mismanagement in life, jealousy, etc.
Do not get affected by negativity in office. If there are negative thoughts or comments, you can distance yourself by not taking all comments seriously. If things are not falling in place or there is an uneasy discontent within, try and shrug it off. Make an extra effort to stay happy so that the negative feelings can never overtake. If you observe carefully, you will see that the negative workers behave pessimistically. Try and stay positive and avoid singling yourself.
Control the negative power by setting things right. Investigate the point of origin; see for yourself whether the feeling is based on baseless thoughts or faulty imagination. Do not be judgemental and concentrate on issues. Do not blame anyone for the situation; instead think about thegood aspects before even touching the topic.
Even if negative thoughts are affecting you, take care you do not spread them across. Keep yourself at bay and control your emotions. Articulate your thoughts intelligently by using the pronoun “I” more frequently. For e.g. “I was surprised that you did that” instead of “How could you do that?". Remember to stay cool and patient with people.
The immediate step against negativity is diagnosing and treating. If talking seems futile, then take a break from your work, engage in something entertaining to relieve yourself from stress. Start blogging or visit someone in the next department or maybe plan a lunch. You may even enroll yourself for some hobby classes. If the situation seems really grim you may consider seeing a counsellor for help. Get in a better mindframe to analyse the situation and then - Fight back.
Negativity cripples the human spirit, therefore be an active participant in freeing your mind from the viciousness of negativite thoughts and look at every situation as a challenge.
