I read a couple of articles today about braving the job market and how college graduates are having a hard time finding employment. Each of the articles had a few tips for new graduates or people searching for jobs, but all of the tips were very simple and the same tips that everyone gets. Basically it came down to look good, clean up your resume, try a different market, accept lower wages, and don't give up. Thanks. That'll help me stand out from the other 150 people that applied and will really help me get the job. Right.

                                                                                                                                            http://www.jobs-europe.com/usa%20executive%20job%20meeting.jpg

If you're going to really stand out from a crowd you have to learn how to find the line. There's a very thin line between being able to stand out and being so over the top that your resume gets tossed first. Printing your resume on a floral print or putting your perfume on it will probably get it tossed right away. Printing it on solid, cotton paper that's slightly smaller probably wont. But, understand where you're applying and with whom. The trick to get a job is to understand how each piece of the puzzle plays into how your present yourself as a candidate. Printing a slightly smaller resume on nice paper isn't going to do much for you if you're applying as a crane operator. It will help if you're applying to be a banker. Understand the market.

Here's one other tip that gets thrown around every now and then that is really relevant. It's important because very few people do it. Research the company. Find out who is going to interview you and do as much background research on them as they're going to do on you. Want to stand out? Prove you care.

And, here's the real trick, learn how to feed that information back without seeming like a stalker or an obnoxious know-it-all. Talk to the person interviewing you and ask the questions, relevant questions. Questions that show your interest beyond "what does this company do?" You should understand the major issues facing the company and be able to ask questions about how that's going to affect the company long term, especially in this economy. Show that you understand the industry beyond what you can find in their brochure. Do that enough times and you'll get a job.

Best of luck....

Thanks for the tips , Darshana. I think that after researching the company , one thing that a candidate can do is to think how he can contribute to the company , if he were to be selected. One of the questions any interviewer asks is "Why do you think we should consider you ?" A candidate should prepare himself for this question.

Good points. These points could be for many, a step in the right direction even though there are many things that a person can do to get a job. I also agree with what K. Narayan stated about being prepared & letting the interviewer know how a person can add value to a company.

It is so true that a job candidate should be prepared for the interview. Even though the candidate might not know the exact questions that will be asked of him or her. In a job interview process, depending on how things are going, a job candidate should wait until the interviewer gives him or her a chance to ask questions. That usually happens at the end of the interview.

The job candidate can take some preparation steps by researching the job that they are interviewing for in addition to researching the company, researching job interview questions & trying role play interviewing. In role play, a person can try & assume the questions that they might be asked. There are also various other things that a person can do to prepare for the interview. Preparation can help to calm your nerves & help the interview process go a little better. Preparation & strategically planning is always key and highly imperative for an interview.

hi,
Darshna
i have some doubt regarding this,
is it that easy to get a call for job? probably not
as we all register our resume in various portal like naukri and monster but we didnt get suitable job for us, they basically offer you job either into consultancy and kpo, a person after completing his/her MBA at least expect good profile with handsome salary isn't it?
In today's scenario due to company referrals policy
those people are getting job who are least qualified for this job, because most of the people who can give tough competition to that selected people are not aware of job opening in that company........................................

Thanks for the tips lady, however i feel that asking questions to the interviewer may not be helping at times. It might be your perception but some do get annoyed if cross questioned during an interview. However knowing about the company and what they deal in before going for interview is an asset of knowledge as it impresses the interviewer....
