Let's be honest, none of us really wants to be considered ordinary. Even if one thinks that ordinary is enough, there is a deeper vision that has probably been buried inside the self-conscience. In my world I want to be the extreme opposite of ordinary. I am not talking about the obvious either; you know ordinary with the black skirt, white shirt and plain blazer vs. red spiky hair, tattoo showing through the fishnets and leg warmers as bracelets (I am not offended by either). I am talking about taking my business to the next level and steps I am taking to do so.

I believe that this quote identifies 3 of the most important attributes that a successful businessperson needs to posses. I will give you the details as to why you must consider using these ideals, how I have used them and how they have contributed to my success.

1. Be DARING…Be DIFFERENT : I have heard …Dare to be Different… many times in my life and in all different settings and circumstances. However, the most important situation that I have had to consider being different and daring was when my son was born. I had many friends that worked full time jobs and parented, and I had many more friends that we the “stay at home mom” types. I, however, didn’t really feel like I fit into either category. I truly didn’t want to go to an eight to five and send my infant to daycare and I didn’t necessarily want him to be my full time job either. I needed a very healthy balance for parenting to work for me. Trust me, I tried my hardest to believe that I could be “ betty home maker”, however, turned out I was terrible at it and miserable at the same time. Not good for the mental health of anyone in our household. I needed a very healthy balance for parenting to work for me.

I also knew that running my own business (KLC Accounting, LLC and GetBusinessSolutions) would take a very dedicated and self disciplined person. That is a person that I have DARED to be. To own your own business you must challenge yourself to be what you may not be. You must dare to be different than your family, your friends and your social network. You must consider the benefits and drawbacks of working for yourself and for me also working from home. In all these areas I was different, at the time that is, than everyone that I knew. I didn’t know any other “work at home moms”. I DARED to be a great mother and a successful business owner, and thus far I am very happy with my successes.

2. Be IMPRACTICAL : A lot of things come to mind for me when the word impractical comes up. You see, I believe I may have a bit of a impulse shopping habit, so much of my impulse shopping can be attributed to impractical items. However, being impractical has been the best thing for my business and its growth. I have read and listened to and bought into many a sales pitch for “internet products”. You all know the ones…make money doing this or that, writing, posting, selling…I know you have heard the pitch. Well, one of those pitches became GetBusinessSolutions and Desperate4Votes was not long to follow. My impulse purchase of the blog GetBusinessSolutions was the creative outlet I needed to realize that I could make money on line. It also taught me so much that when I needed to create Desperate4Votes I had the knowledge to do so. My point is…being IMPRACTICAL can be vitally important to ones successes when owning their own business. It can be the key to taking the next step towards reaching the higher goals…sometimes impractical decisions are the ones that turn dreams into reality. It did for me!

3. IMAGINATIVE Vision : I wish I could sing the tune for you that I use to explain the way my brain works. It sounds similar to the CIRCUS and goes do do dodadoda, di di dodadoda, di di doda, di di doda…you are probably so not getting it, however, point is my brain runs on high speed always. Creatively I am always looking for the angle that I can take as a business owner to make a good idea GREAT!
I would not be writing this blog if it were not for the contest I entered. I was having issues with my computer, impulse buyer that I am went to the Dell site to see what was on sale, saw a contest “Dell Means Business” where they were asking how any business could use a technology make over. My imaginative vision kicked in immediately as I feverishly typed an essay about how I would spend $25K in technology. This vision that I had and WROTE landed me in the top 3 and now I need the votes of every Small Business Owner so that I can actually bring that vision to life. I believe that I can win and I hope that all of you reading this see my vision…my hope and my dream come to life by voting for me.
Back to imaginative vision, once I found out that I was in the top three that circus music got to running and I created Desperate4Votes…my way to let people know more about me while offering incentive ($50 & $75 Visa Gift Cards) before voting at DellMeansBusiness. I now have a future vision for Desperate4Votes and I believe it will be very successful…so my point is you must have a Vision, clear or blurry, in order to take your business to the next level. I believe that if it can be imagined it can be…
