As the worlds economy grows and flexes her muscles globally, the earth's fragile ecosystem is being crushed underfoot the march to prosperity. The Icebergs are melting, Soil is eroding, Temperature is constantly increasing, thus there arises a need for Holistic and Global perspective of ecological conservation and simultaneous economic develoment.

Biotechnology as a science is contributing to long term environmental stability and development by the rapid employment of biofuels. Biofuels are the fuels, that are yielded from plants. These are easy to operate, accessible, cheap, ecofriendly and reliable. In India, we have wonder biofuel plants like Karanjia and Jatropa. A single seed of Jatropa produces almost 35 mm of oil and this oil doesn't need any further refinary or filtration processess.

Besides contributing to the environmental stability, biofuels provide the required boon to Indian Agricultural sector. Almost more then 60% of Indian are agricultural, so biotechnology besides global ecological conservative initiatives also creates employment in rural sectors.

Some the significant contributions of Bio-fuels acn be listes as:

  • Strengthen Energy Security
  • Promote Economic Develoment
  • Protect the environment
  • Agricultural development
  • Prevents biodiversity

I as an individual highly recommend the utilization of biofuels, so that we can mantain our ecosystem in an equilibrium state, so that we can make this planet a better place to live in, so that we can pass the heritage of neat, fresh and healthier environment to the coming generations.

yes... many organizations in India started research on biofuels/Jatropha but there is no significant outcomes yet, government should encourage private organizations which are doing green business, So that right technologies can be developed....next generation biofuels like Algal biodiesel is another big oppurtunity........

In Actual senses jatropa biofuel concept in india has been started by our Goverment just as an eye wash and to show the world that we also have some thing called biofuel.we the research scholars in india sit and critizise United States for using corn as ethanol source but they have done atleast that..... Moreover research in india is not centralized

yes its very true , that use of these natural sources as biofuels definetly contributed as mentioned in enlisted points
thanks safeer

It realy need to think about the alternative fuel source to meet the demand especially to save the fossil fuel for the future. In another aspects, the biofuels /biodiesel has the great advantage over the fossil fuel ib protecting the environment and genrate less pollution.Inspite of using oil seed like jatropha ,pongan, palm oil etc for biofuels better to think of next generation fuels like algal biouels, cellulose ethanol, biomass based fuel ethanol.
The near going to be with green fuels only so lets well the green fuel for green and clean environment

Largely the problem with large scale application of biofuels is
a) economics as dearth of supply of feed stocks.
b) non-availability of wide spread technology to product biofuel to satisfy the current demand
c) in ability of conventional/unmodified engines to run pure biofuels. Most engines will run 10-15% blend of biofuel with fossile fuel without problem.

So, why we have not still made any progress in this regard , i mean using this biofuel for our vehicles
