Body talk at interviews!!

The spoken and the unspoken rules at interviews. Are you taking notes?

Once you are ushered into the interview room there will usually be a short exchange of pleasantries and ice-breaking. This time is designed to put you at ease in most circumstances, but these initial moments are the most formative. Try to follow the Middle Path here don't go overboard being exceptionally friendly or alternatively going rigid with fear feeling that your handshake was too limp!

Here are more tips to help you out...

* Sit comfortably with both feet on the floor.

* Lean slightly towards the interviewer.

* Don't play with your hair or you hands. Keep them out of your pockets!

* Try not to create defensive barriers between you and them, like a brief case on your knees, folded arms or crossed legs...even if you feel the need to. It's natural, but your interviewer will not physically attack!

* Maintain natural eye contact with the interviewer 'maintain' eye contact, but don't stare like a snake!

* If there's more than one interviewer, look at who's talking.

* When you're talking, shift your glance from one to the other.

* Don't over-use your hands, if you are a natural gesticulator.

* Don't squirm and fidget

* Do nod and mmm to show you're listening.

* Be the natural you. Now how offensive can you get with that?

The tips are essential.it also depends on what position and discipline candidate is interviewed for....and one never knows what the interviewer's priorities are, substance ,attitude, appearance etc nothing to lose by keeping the tips in mind.because You have a very little time to impress..and This may help

My suggestion would be more on the confidance level of the candidate at the time of interview. If the knowlede about the subject is good and well prepared candidate automatically builds up the self confidance. Confidance level of the candidate dictates his body and not one can intensionally behave or control.

Nagpal, yes, but there is nothing to prepare in how to behave. You just have to remember the basics of presenting and behaving yourselves in addition to keeping in mind that you need to show some etiquette while in front of the interviewers.........

Its just that a candidate can just do a bit of additional homework, it is not going to harm him or her, am I right??? :)

Alka, you see, before a person goes for interview, he/she prepares himself/herself to an extant, but there are certain instant incidents that really matter a lot, therefore i think a person should overall be confident, good listener with smile on phase who talks relevent to the question.......
I mean if a person has this much of things to consider before interview, me be he misses his real matter..... i am surely not against tips you mentioned...

Thanks for sharing some insight.
Alka G, its a nice insite and hope it will be helful for many people mainly to fresh candidates. Of course many people does not know even simple behaviours, how to be stand, sit or talk with the interveiwer. I don't think that it is to be learn and prepare for it. Once anybody is coming for interveiw he should dressed as per the requirement, neat and tidy, standing, sitting, talking which should be nomal, polite and to the point facing towards the interveiwer. Always mind it should be just like the teacher student relationship.
