It’s only to earn a basic minimum livelihood that most of the poor families of disadvantaged communities of western Orissa leave their home and land up in the brick kilns operating in Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. But once in the brick kiln, these innocent poor families fall into the grip of sucking tentacles of the kiln owners for whom lives of the workers make no value against the brick. It becomes a situation of slavery and bondage in the makeshift camps inside a kiln where many of the workers die, many suffer from serious ailments while struggling to achieve the target. Initially bearing a hope, brick kilns turn out to be death destinations for many of the migrant workers. Umi Daniel scans the issues of migrant labourers working in the Brick Kilns of Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh

Mr Mohapatra, here we feel helpless to read ur story. The tradition is unchanged even when India is said to be "growth-path". The migrants equally go from Ranchi, Chottisgarh, MP etc. Nobody cares for the poor. If ur Media finds time, may U telecast this episode ? Go on posting their plight here on TooStep - at least we learn the fact.

Dear Mr. basudev, Illiteracy and lack of awareness of right to live are the reason for situation that your story reveals. Being a media man you can do much to help this situation. The central government had announced many schemes to ensure 100 days job for every citizen. Compulsory free education till the age of 14 and many more rights to live. hope your pen work in this direction to educate people.

Thanks for referring Mr.Asoke Kusari Ji.
It is pity and matter of regret. The government & the social organization should take some necessary steps to rescue their life.It is surprise to note that the matter is still not come to the notice of media persons, at least they will raise their voices.

Dear Mr Kusari, thanks for your patient reading and opinion. I don't believe we are helpless. We can do a lot even by bringing the issues of the migrant labourers from Orissa, Chhattisgarh, Bhopal, Bihar, Jharkhand and UP to such forums and draw others' attention to the plight of the workers who are living miserably and some of them are even dying a miserable death. I am working on a follow up story and will surely bring to you through TOOSTEP. Thanks again.

it is abolutely right govt should take some measurment on that and using advance machinery for such type of works and replacing these workers for other jobs will only heelp to divert the death destination for migrant workers,we all should look for alternate media for the problem rahter discussion in yes or no as a answer
