Hey guys, I came across a wonderful article & I'm sharing it with you.....

Wipro    has introduced a new software program which will take real-time requests making life easy for employees reaching office. The employees are using their mobile phones and a smart inhouse application to car-pool in real time, an initiative to help them save fuel and be eco-responsible, writes Renuka Phadnis from Bangalore Mirror. http://www.goride.in/images/banner.jpg

The application, called eShareRide, works for employees going from various points in the city to Wipro offices and back home. It also helps them travel between various Wipro offices. The pilot project now covers just 200 employees, but will be extended to 10,000 in about a month. The idea took shape a year ago. "We launched the project at our Madiwala and Sarjapur offices," said Sushrutha Bankapura, tech manager, who conceptualized and executed the project with a team of six.

To be able to use the application, 'champions' (car owners) and 'users' (Wiproites who want to share the car), first register online and get IDs. A champion marks online the route he takes, how many people he can take, and which landmarks he is willing to stop at. Users provide details of their starting point and when they wish to travel. eShareRide uses Yahoo maps so that champions and users can easily mark places and routes.

eShareRide also uses information transport department to calculate how much time it takes for the champion to reach a landmark. In future, real-time traffic information will be incorporated to make the application more accurate.

Ram Ramakrishnan, Vice President, Facilities Management Group, Wipro said the response had been good after the pilot project was launched with 100 employees each in Wipro's Bangalore and Pune offices. "In Bangalore, the service will cover 10,000 employees at the Electronics City campus by August,' said Sachin Mulay, head of eco-energy marketing and brand communications, Wipro.

Can sense the frustration which everyone shares about the manic congestion on our roads. We at Indimoto.com are doing out bit and enabling commuters to find carpool partners across India as a part of our green initiative.

We are also partnering with large organisation for a 'Corporate Carpool Programme' which is a CSR activity for them and a win-win situation for all. Do visit us at www.indimoto.com to know more about our carpool initiative.

I hope people who read this article would be making some efforts to start their own car pool with their colleagues if possible.

The car pooling while going to offices has been in practice in other countries like Singapore more than a decade ago, while I were there on business purposes. It is a commendable effort, if this practice is done in many places we shall be saving quite a bit of oil which is precious.

Thanks Smita for referral.
An excellent attempt by Wipro.

Importantly, this model will enjoy great success only if people forget ego and starts green thinking.

Otherwise, everybody agrees on having many martyrs like "Shahid Bhagt Sing", but in neighbor's house. Nobody steps forward.

Hope all medium-2-large/govt organisations forces such initiatives.
really great work by wipro , thanks for sharing
