I found this fascinating quote today:

Cash flow management is a problem for almost any firm, large or small. The worst symptom of the problem: the business runs out of cash. Watching a business floundering, running out of cash even as it makes great sales and profits is painful. Painful though it may be, it is common and repeatedly the cause of business failure.Viktor, Entrepreneur Success Stories, Jun 2009

You should read the whole article.

Very refreshing for me indeed since I review cash flows on a monthly basis. However, thanks for posting this article. Would love to see much more of accounting/finance/audit articles posted and discussed on this site. Appreciated.

"Cash Flow Management" to manage the monthly procurement and expenditure efficiently require the effective collection from the Debtors so that cash is always available to meet the payments to the venders for good/supplies, expenditure and payrol etc.

I have been in this for the last 20 years. What you have indicated is true and so are the responses. But where is the solution? There have been more and more working capital problems every day.
The problem is understood. The solution is not available. If we go strictly by ensuring cash flow, we may (80% of the people who depend on institutional funding) not be able to start business at all. This 80% of the people have a majority of talented people amongst them.
Instead of advising an entrepreneur to ensure cash flow and working capital before even the business starts, we should start taking steps to bring in a system where no business idea should suffer lack of resources - whatever these resources may be.
My response may be out of the line and sound harsh but I believe I have a right to comment on state of affairs and people involved, having helped rehabilitate over 100 sick units (most of them had cash flow problems).

Thanks for the article. Cashflow is the blood line of any organisation. Most people think only failing business have cashflow problem. Its really hard to explain to a non finance person that even though sales could be booming; the business could still go under. ou may recall the case of Osborne computers u.s.a., the first portable computer company - one of its kind product, huge demand, booming sales.. still went under. Thankfully the solutions to the cashflow problem are widely known and closely followed by most companies.
