Hi, friends I got this wonderful piece of information on cloud computing & its applications....I'm sharing this with u all...hope it is usefulll.....

Cloud computing is quickly beginning to shape up as one of these major changes and the hundreds of thousands of business customers of cloud offerings from Amazon (Amazon Web Services), Salesforce (Force.com), and Google (many offerings, including Google App Engine), including a growing number of Fortune 500 companies, is showing both considerable interest and momentum in the space.

Cloud Computing: A delicate balance of risk and benefit

To be clear, there are currently unanswered questions and inherent challenges — even some major risks — in adopting cloud computing for more that so-called “edge” computing of minor applications and non-critical business systems. Notably, these include security of enterprise data that stored in the cloud, risk of lock-in to cloud platform vendors, loss of control over cloud resources run and managed by someone else, and reliability.

On the other side of the coin are some benefits that can potentially change the game for many firms that are willing to be very proactive in managing potential downside. These include access to completely different levels of scale and economics in terms of the ability to scale very rapidly and to operate IT systems more cheaply that previously possible. Easier change management of infrastructure including maintenance and upgrades (cloud vendors extensively virtualize and commoditize the underlying components to make them non-disruptive to replace and improve) as well as offering improved agility to deploy solutions and choice between vendors, particularly when cloud interoperability becomes more of a reality than it is today. Cloud computing also offers an onramp to new computing advances such as non-relational databases, new languages, and frameworks that are designed to encourage scalability and take advantage of new innovations such as modern Web identity, open supply chains, and other advances.

Pros and Cons of Cloud Computing

In fact, cloud computing holds the potential to dramatically change the businesses that adopt it, even if the technologies are only used internally.

So, whats your view on this....

Today is a world of proprietary software...tomorrow it will be of proprietary hardware..considering the lower hardware costs it will significantly be an advantage for all participants..

Thanks for sharing the information, Neelam....
Despite the initial issues (security, etc.) surrounding cloud computing, it may be the way for the future. It may be just a matter of time before all the organizations jump onto the cloud computing bandwagon as the benefits are tremendous. Adequate security measures could further help to strengthen the cloud computing benefits....

Useful information albeit it would have been better to enrich from experiences of current users or some of the Fortune companies that may have experimented with the clouds. Those who are offering the cloud computing platforms or relative services would naturally highlight it positive points more up-front. Is not it?!

Hi Neelam,

I appreciate your effort to share knowledge. But by reading this article, I concluded that it has major disadvantages than advantages. Because here only major benefit to use cloud computing is the COST to company. Other pros can treated as subsidiary requirements as there are alternatives available in conventional computing. When security & reliability of the system are doubtful, what will the company do to that cost on behalf of these valuable qualities? As data are assets of any company, I don't think it is ok to use cloud technologies.

Thank you.

Cloud computing is just in its initial phase , may be its secondary(purified)phase will be beneficiary for many young professional to make carrier, now in India lot of work is going on clouds, now cloud computing I think is one of top discussion among carrier new professionals. In future its beneficiary phase will be much strong.

Neelam, It is still not very clear how secure and reliable Cloud Computing is. Lets wait for some time before its implications are visible... Not that I am muc of an expert on this, so it is just a gut feeling that it may be a great tool in the future and widely used by everyone.

Just look at the Web. Ten years ago a very few people could have predicted its widespread popularity. But you have picked up a good subject for discussion, though.

It is best to adopt cloud computing and see the results for ourselves. The benefits should be more than the risks involved as mentioned above. change managemnt of infrastructure , improved agility of deployment are the benefits.security, reliability and loss of control are the risks involved.
