last week I happened to be in Rohtak where my in-laws live. my father-in-law was very ill for a long time & private hospital treatment was ineffective. since there is a famous Post-Graduate Medical institute (PGIMS) In rohtak which has many renouned specialists, we decided to try our luck there. This was my 1st brush with a govt hospital & it was an eye opener for me.

  • Written instructions on display along with personnel at enquiry counters who have the attitude of an insecure ageing movie actress ensured that the harassed & harrowed patients & their relatives who are a little less inclined towards literacy run around like headless chicken.
  • Endless paperwork which needs to be filled & presented at a zillion counters & departments spread across 10 acres of medical labyrinth & if there is a mistake in your form...the race starts all over again.
  • Highly motivated para-medical staff who work like machines on low power supply & speak with the warmth of an IVR machine are very instrumental in making you feel welcome.
  • Even though there is adequate supply of medicines & medical equipment, you are still sent away to the medical stores located outside the hospital for drugs needed for emergency treatment.
  • Whoever talked about cleanliness at hospitals needs to visit this place & take tips. This hospital is a supermarket of all kinds of friendly germs & hospitable antibodies. You also have mice, roaches & lizards for company.
  • Expert nurses ensure that you are stabbed at least 5 times before they find the right vein in your arm for IV, & they all the disposition of a drill sergeant when called for in the middle of their siestas.
  • At regular intervals, some medical professor would walk in to the room with his entourage of medical students & from then on the lucky patient gets to be the designated guinea pig & gets probed, examined, turned around in various angles for inspection. The best part is that each student would discover some anomaly & complication with the triumph of Columbus when he discovered America.

A COMPREHENSIVE ATRICLE!
IT IS A FACT THAT MOST OF THE GVT HSPTLS ARE FILLED WITH DUST, GERMS,RODENTS AND INEFFICIENT STAFF.
COMMON MAN WITH LOW INCOME IS STILL UNABLE TO GET GOOD AND UPDATED TREATMENT IN THOSE HSP.
THE REASON COULD BE EITHER SHORTAGE OF FUNDS OR IMPROPER UTILIZATION OF FUNDS.
MANY PRIVATE HSPTLS BUT NOT ALL DO INFACT PROVIDE EFFICIENT AND ADVANCED HEALTHCARE BUT THE COSTS ARE ALARMING.
THE POOR OR LOW INCOME PEOPLE CANT AFFORD THE BEST TREATMENT IN THOSE PRV HSP AND HENCE THEY ARE DESTINED TO DIE OR FACE SHORT LIFE.
HENCE GOVT SHOULD MAKE MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR THE COMMON PEOPLE LOT MORE EASIER AND KEEP AN EYE ON THE COSTS IN PRVT HOSPTLS AND ALSO CATEGORICALLY REMOVE THE INEFFICIENT AS WELL AS LOWLY MOTIVATED STAFF FROM THE GOVT HSPTLS BESIDES ENSURING PROPER UTILIZATION OF FUNDS IN GVT HSPTLS.
DISINTEGRATE CORRUPTION FROM HEALTH SYSTEM,THEN EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE! THAT IS IT!

A nice article....but feel sad for the patients at these Government hospitals, these are virtual death traps for many, they are helpless even Government is not taking care of these things and Private hospitals with their exorbitant price one cant afford them. A sorry state of situation in Indian Government hospitals.........
