Why talented people hesitate from joining politics and govt.?
It is mostly because of salary, have you seen any IIM grads in govt of India of parliament (Except Omar Abdullah and one MP from Manipur, not sure though)?
This is because corporates pay them 10-20 times more, so there's no rationale in joining govt. services.

The people who write such superficial facts and figures must not be knowing who is handling which govt portfolio? They just know how to criticize, nothing else. However may be the system, we must not forget their its OUR SYSTEM and we are a part of it.

I remember before years, NRIs dwelling in USA used to criticize Indian banking system for its rigid rules, and see what happened to USA - its national bank Merrill Lynch COLLAPSED and BANKRUPTED. And the entire USA froze into long lasting and devastating recession. And India recorded close to double digit growth during that time and its banking system emerged as one of the best and benchmark systems for the whole world. That's the reality!!!!

For information, the highest paid person in parliament is our honorable PM, and he draws a monthly salary of 1,50,000 Rs. - all the taxes and other deductions. For the authentication of my figures, check govt. of India web-sites or google it. Now if PM is earning 1,50,000 and any article shows even MPs salaries to be in Crores - its ridiculous. Corruption and bribes are different thing though. PM's Sir's salary is not even 10% of our so-called corporate world's CEOs.

This happens to be a fact..Still there is lot to be done to improve things...But blindly criticizing the system will not help..

The cartoon or caricature tells all the story why 'creme de la creme'fear of joining the politics. As a matter of fact, the top political leader has all the power, glamor, stamina, endurance that compensation, undue criticism falls way side and conversely.he or she can even bring even turn worst weather in his or her favor.

Dear Kubal,

Criticism is a representative activity and when it comes from someone who is better aware of preferred option it is immensely meaningful and requisite. This applies not only to politics but all other processes as well.
Not everyone weighs utility of activity with money else the word "SELFLESS" would not exist.
Everyone is not required to do all activities therefore the person who choses should learn to respect critics and gain from their knowledge.
Indulgence in criticism for the sake of it is a meaningless exercise.
On the aspect of Salary, allow me to mention it is meaningless to even talk as the facts are all in know before entry.

It cannot be considered as criticism per se, it is called 'checks and balances' which is the error correction mechanism of every democracy. Once the government or the creme learn to channelise the economic forces then the criticisms will subside.

With Rs 1,50,000/- no talented person can fight an election in India-:)

Before banks in India were nationalized, many of them have collapsed, bankrupted and even disappeared with lots of money-:)

The above mentioned comment is a simplistic view, saying that, compensation alone makes a person work in or for Govt. Most MP's & politicians have shown 'competence'and proved that they can 'earn' much better than IIT/IIM grads, all you need is to look into the disclosure of assets before Election Commission of India.
There are 100's of IIT/IIM grads working in Govt of India as IAS/IPS/IRS/etc officers and may be working for a pittance(as compared to their private sector counterparts).I'am sure they joined the civil services knowing very well the pay they will get and many of them want to make a difference, money alone is not the criteria,it is character which matters. Those who run after money alone show a singular lack of character which shows up when Lehman bros,Enron collapse...
