Good story with old version

There was once a washer man who had a donkey and a dog.

One night when the whole world was sleeping, a thief broke into the house, the washer man was fast asleep but the donkey and the dog were awake.

The dog decided not to bark since the master did not take good care of him and wanted to teach him a lesson.

The donkey got worried and said to the dog that if he doesn't bark, the donkey will have to do something himself. The dog did not change his mind and the donkey started braying loudly.

Hearing the donkey bray, the thief ran away, the master woke up and started beating the donkey for braying in the middle of the night for no reason.

Moral of the story " One must not engage in duties other than his own"

Now take a new look at the same story

The washer man was a well educated man from a premier management institute.

He had the fundas of looking at the bigger picture and thinking out of the box. He was convinced that there must be some reason for the donkey to bray in the night.

He walked outside a little and did some fact finding, applied a bottom up approach, figured out from the ground realities that there was a thief who broke in and the donkey only wanted to alert him about it.

Looking at the donkey's extra initiative and going beyond the call of the duty, he rewarded him with lot of hay and other perks and became his favorite pet.

The dog's life didn't change much, except that now the donkey was more motivated in doing the dogs duties as well. In the annual appraisal the dog managed a " meets requirement" Soon the dog realized that the donkey is taking care of his duties and he can enjoy his life sleeping and lazing around.

The donkey was rated as "star performer". The donkey had to live up to his already high performance standards. Soon he was over burdened with work and always under pressure and now is looking for a job rotation

If you have worked in a corporate environment, I am sure you have guessed

the characters of the new story.....:-)

Interesting... If we see the corporate culture... even you are donkey of this story.. you may or may not be recognised... but dog of this story will always recognised because he has developed second lead.. Ha.... ha.... haaa...I experienced this situation in my life... I was the donkey always and my boss was the dog always ... as usual.

Gud Depiction of Corporate Animals :)
Every1 has to pass the phase of Donkey (Employee) in corporate ladder.
And Dog is the Manager in this case. Because i read sum where that, Getting work done from others is management.

Hi,

In the current scene, educated Dogs who keep updates of Donkey's work, are assumed as Donkey's Boss. Let's face it, at our level we are all Donkeys, but a level lower, We are sure thought of as DOGS.

lol

This is a very true story each everyone is facing in todays corporate world.
This is infact a competition and either the dog or a donkey should be smart enough to to do thier own acitivities.
Nice Insight Kanikaa.
Very apt in this corporate world. Most of us have to go through 'Donkey Work' by some way or the other. :)

As true Manager we should find out reasons why dog has not barked. If the reasons are due to management´s negligence then management should rectify their way of working. If the reason´s are due to dog´s laziness then rewarding donkey is no mistake. Management should also try to motivate dog also instead of neglecting dog totally.
Very Interesting......and True...

hi kanika,

Its true but donnt forget about the perks ( rewards ).
in corporate world one must be donkey and another is dog .
the thing is we all work for perks .

I prefer not doing others jobs but if i get extra perks whats worng to doing extra job.

we all work for money and we sell our skills , experiance, our time.

Good one! I guess all in the corporate world will surely agree. One(donkey aka aam janta) has to do both the dog as well as the donkey's work while the dog (the boss) enjoys all the perks and lazes around!
