Almost 6 atheletes have been tested positive for dope. This happened under Ukranian coach Yuri Ogorobonik. This incident is very unfortunate. We all expect coaches to teach ethics before the sport and do not expect a sports person to indulge in any of such practices.

The shining names have now lost hopes of ever appearing in olympics too.. The names include Ashiwini, Mandeep and Sini .. the members of the famed women's 4x400 metres relay team that won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games last year. Ashiwini also won the gold in the 400 metres hurdles at the Asian Games..

Quarter-milers Ashwini Akkunji, Mandeep Kaur, Sini Jose, Juana Murmu, Priyanka Pawar, Tiana Mary Thomas, shot-putter Sonia and men's long jumper Hari Krishnan Muralidharan have tested positive in dope tests conducted out of competitions.

This scandal has disgraced our nation as well. What do you to say about this??

I don't think it was the mistake of Athletes. You have a medical contingent, including, physio-therapists to guide the athletes before the event. In big events, such as, Commonwealth and Asian Games, no Athlete would like to jeopardise his/her image by taking steriods! Our Sports Ministry has to get to the root of this issue and punish the guilty, in this case, I suspect the callous attitude of the Medical Practitioners attached to them!

It is done for enhancement of performance by athlete & it is really hard to believe that these athletes are not aware what they are taking? & if they have doubt, then they should not take such supplement & international athlete association published the list of banned supplements.
Thanks for referral, Neelima.

To my understanding every important sporting event held should have this Dope test as a must as per the rules and regulation of the sporting events and games, yes do agree from Ben Johnson to Carl lewis to Maurice green are all power runners and steroids are equally taken by these atheletes to give best of the performance. however, random test also gives how well the athelete is well informed about these factors before the event, To my observation there are lots of cricketers and footballers who do continue to take dope but are unnoticed. Its high time the sports ministry take a look at it. After all the IPL/Commonwealth games fiasco.

See in India every thing is possible. The sacked coach has said yes he is responsible but what these girls were taking earlier the same thing has been given may be drugs are counterfeit.

I dont know nobody will risk their good life to put in jeopardy by taking banned substance and that too the full group. It is not possible that all of them are bad.

Athletes and their coach are under tremendous pressure to achieve results. High expectations push them towards superficial performance & will provide & insist Athletes to go for steroid based supplements & company's are trying hard for such combination which could not be found during dope test, in west they are marginally successful to this effect.

It is unfortunate that we are loosing ethics & sportsmanship in all kind of sports.

This, according to me is a clear cut conspiracy of the coaches and trainers of foreign national. Moreover we become cynical about those foreign people and tend to forget that we, in India have better talented people for the same purpose. Now it is the right time to realize and value ourselves.

East European countries have always been in the limelight for doping. Couple this with the ambition of athletes to gain glory. Its a heady mix which, when caught, provides ample news all for the wrong reasons. Yes, doctors who prescribe supplements are guilty but the athlete is equally guilty for taking a supplement without obtaining complete knowledge about it.
I actually wonder how many athletes have got away...

Doping Scandal do occur in all Sports Events. But, India is to take care of it, from being a Victim to it. External forces always play their hands for wanton purpose. Experienced sportsman/woman know but, they are unable to circumvent it because of their inability. The country is to take precaution against these, if it is really interested to bring up sport talent in India.Athlete need not be a scope-coat for the foreign play. Official wisdom should prevail on such occurrence.

In my country a young athlete was also found positive with some substance that was (supposedly) not included in a list of ingredients of a sports drink that she used, and that substance was (supposedly) added recently on a list of banned substances. Too bad for her.
My oppinion? Let them all get dead-stoned with steroids, anabolics etc. In my line of work in order to be efficient I use all sorts of aids, so why pretend that they don't. It is just those that get caught we frown upon. So why not legalize it all and see some fresh results - sports grew boring over years.

Guess more then ath.letes and coaches it is the rotten sports system of India that needs to be blamed. Episodes like tghis are bound to happen as sports Federation are governed by Politicians who have no knowledge of the sports and the prevailing rules / ethics and pampered foreign coaches take a full advantage of such looopholes and get away too.

Coaches and Federations are too busy fighting one another leaving little or no time to bring decipline in the governing bodies.

There is some medicines are also cause of positive doping test so it should be clarify with medical expert. If it is purposely done by some player then result is very simple to drop down. All the games or tournaments are for fun and enjoy not for earning this sentence must remember each athletic player and should be alert for any disqualifying.Rules of the games must be followed to every one.
