ERP bring good tidings amidst textile slump

Vinay Umarji / Mumbai/ Ahmedabad September 24, 2008, 0:09 IST

Even as the textile industry continues its search for various cost cutting measures, more and more companies are finding an answer in implementing ERP solutions to streamline their processes.

While for some it means tremendous reduction in costs and wastages over a period of time, for others it amounts to consolidation of management processes thereby saving time and resources.

Recently, homegrown textile major Arvind Ltd. tied up with Infinite Computer Solutions (I) Ltd. for implementation of Datatex Textile ERP, an industry specific solutions.

Soon after, the global IT solutions and services provider also tied up with fabric manufacturing company, Bombay Rayon Fashions Ltd. (BRFL) for implementation and ongoing support of ERP solutions.

Infinite is the business and implementation partner for Datatex Textile ERP in India, South Asia and Australia. Datatex is a global leader in the apparel and textile ERP space with broad range of customers that have annual revenues ranging from a couple of million dollars to over $ 6 billion.

“We are deploying global ERP major SAP’s modules for the financial accounting, budgeting and controlling functionality. We have also created a seamless integration platform between Datatex and SAP’s ERP solution using the middleware technologies offered by SAP. Having tied up with Arvind and BRFL, we now have atleast 7-8 clients in textile industry using our services. Increasingly, the industry is realising the benefits of implementing these solutions amidst the market slump,” said Upinder Zutshi, chief executive officer of Infinite Computer Solutions (I) Ltd.

Following suit is also Ahmedabad-based Nandan Exim, the denim arm of Chiripal Group, which implemented SAP's solutions last year.

“Although it is tough to say by how much the costs get reduced, it definitely streamlines management processes and brings down wastages. However, it is mostly recommended for companies with a considerable turnover and long term vision since the entire benefits of ERP solutions can only be reaped over a period of time,” said Deepak Chiripal, chief executive officer of Nandan Exim Ltd.
