There are certain essential skills we need to adapt when we are at the office.

  1. Never walk without a document in your hand….

(People with documents in their hands look like hardworking employees heading for important meetings. People with nothing in their hands look like they’re heading to the canteen. People with newspaper looks like they are heading to the toilet. Above all make sure you carry lots of stuff home with you at night, thus generating a false impression that you work longer hours than you do).

  1. Use computer to look busy…..

(Any time you use computer, it looks like “work” to the casual observer. You can send and receive personal emails, chat and generally have a blast without doing anything remotely related to work. When you get caught by your boss and you “will” get caught…your best defense is to claim that you’re teaching yourself to use new software, thus saving valuable training expenses.

  1. Look impatience and annoyed…

(Always try to look impatience and annoyed to give your boss the impression and look that you are always busy)

  1. Keep your desk messy…

(It looks like we are not working when the desk is not messy. If we pile up things on the desk then we look occupied and workaholic)

lots more to go...ill keep updating !!

Just to add to it.. 1. Work from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm This gives the impression that you are over burdened...who knows that your effiecency levels are too low. 2. Keep waiting any body who comes to your desk even for some petty work which should take just a minute of your time. 3. take your lunch break at 5.00pm This shows how busy you are, you dont even have time to take a lunch break. You will anyway require 20 m minutes if you break at 2.00pm instead of 5.00 pm, but this gives the impression that you sre so bussyyy...

Oh come on! The tips listed are basically to 'give an impression' that one is busy. This is NOT GOOD. For Pete's sake, someone contribute in a manner that actually helps you to be more productive.

I'd say the most essential office skill is to SMILE. Yes, everyone works hard, everyone's busy, everyone's stressed out, but a simple, honest smile certainly takes you a long way. Another essential skill is not WASTING your work-time, make the most of the time you have to get as much work done as possible. If you have spare time, try to help the laggards, this way a) you contribute more b) you make others happy.

Finally, never be dubious in your actions. If you don't want to work on a particular day then don't work, take a break. Be honest, keep it simple, and always try to finish your work within 8 working hours.

Hi...

Here is some more take on the office skill....my contributions

1. Voice mail: Never answer your phone if you have a voice mail.People call you because they want you to work for them.So just look busy and answer them at lunch time. You would definitely look busy and the most needed guy at that moment.

2. Sigh Aloud: Just sigh aloud so that you make people around you feel, that you are under tremendous pressure.

3. Jacket Funda: Have two jacket(look alike). If you work in big open plan office then this funda works. Always leave the spare jacket draped over the back of your seat. This will look like that you are still in the office premises.
