Formal education and education at work- Benefits

With globalization making the world a smaller place to live in, International schools are gaining popularity. We list out 10 factors that set apart from the rest of the schools around:

Acceptability: With a large number of students wanting to pursue under grad studies abroad, international schooling is the obvious choice. A degree from an International school is also widely accepted in India. The UGC has placed the IB diploma at par with HSC.

Infrastructure: Air conditioned classrooms, high tech computer and science labs, auditoria, well stacked libraries, counselors, games room, day boarding and so on. Every classroom has a maximum of 15-20 students, which allows a teacher to pay individual attention. International schools provide an ambience that is conducive to a child’s physical, mental and emotional growth.

Globalization: International schools give kids early exposure to practical learning. They become more aware of the world view and more receptive to different cultures.

Curriculum: These schools focus on developing the child’s personality rather than encouraging him/her to score marks. We have a broad based curriculum that gives children an opportunity to study everything from science to humanities to commerce together. They can choose a combination of subjects too, so as to pursue their areas of interest.

Faculty: The quality of teachers and associated staff add value to a child’s learning process. As per international conventions, teachers in IB and IGSCE schools have to undergo rigorous training programs in foreign countries. They are taught to handle the academic, mental and emotional needs of children. Moreover, the parent teacher associations are given a lot of importance.

Convenient for Working parents: Many international schools have a residential facility that makes it convenient for parents of the students to stay, who spend long hours at work or are on frequent business trips.

Smooth Transition: For parents, who have transferable jobs at an international level, IB schools are a godsend. Kids don’t have to worry about adjusting to different cuirricula or methods of teaching.

Extra Curricular Activities: Right from horse riding to piano lessons, international schools provide a host of activities to engage a child’s mind. This enables him/her to discover hidden talents, boost self esteem and widen horizons on different topics. This way the student becomes smarter and more confident in life.

Overall Development: With an emphasis on projects, field work, research, kids don’t have to spend sleepless nights mugging up text books. Exams are not the whole and sole of academic excellence.

Cross Cultural Training: Since students from different nationalities study together, they are able to learn and grow socially and culturally. They learn to respect the similarities and differences between people from different parts of the globe.

An illustration:

Featherstone CEO of Will Burt Company made a decision that would ultimately save his company: As an essential step in improving quality he decided to educate his workforce. With assistance from the University of Akron, he developed a program to train employees in the basic skills necessary for them to perform their jobs. Work based classes in math, blueprint reading, geometry, and statistics were designed and made mandatory for all employees. Featherstone invested in the teachers and materials, and, in addition, paid employees at their normal hourly wage rate fir their time spent in class. He hoped that this would emphasize the importance of the education to the employees and the company.

The program worked. Out of 100 people noted Featherstone perhaps 10 to 20 didn’t like having to learn. But the other 80 wanted more education. They understood that they could improve their lives. By end of 1988, Will-Burt’s annual rework expenses had dropped almost 75 percent to $180,000, and the time devoted to remaking parts fell from 2,000 hours per month to only 400 hours power month.

Yes there are lot of benfits but then how many of the Indian kids can afford such schools and how many of the companies can bring the education culture in their organizations during the present scenario. Yes the schools in the country can be improved but most of the Indian kids still go to government schools, where there is no proper infrastructure. A classic case of Survival of the fittest the Darwin's theory.
