How
many times have been in a business conference which guided the world to
sell things for free? Well, if you never heard about one, then you need
to know about Nokia
World 2007 Conference where Chris Anderson, Editor in Chief talks to
the world in same context.
The campaign broke all the traditional way of selling a service product. The new way to sell today has changed focus from the actual product to the complementary product or supporting product which could enhance the selling of original product. Chris talks about the new concept of 0 + 2 which is contrary to 1+1 which is traditional way of selling. Traditional Example of selling would be - A company which is providing services using a product is earning 1 revenue from product and 1 revenue from servicing the product where as the new way of selling would be sell the product for free with revenue as "0" and earning 2 from servicing the product i.e. transitioning from 1 + 1 concept to 0 + 2. There is a sense of a revolution which is going to come in recent years. Think of an environment, where every child takes birth with your product in his right hand. This would be a revolution.
I run a Guitar School today. Let me dream of a world where every child takes birth with a Guitar in his hand where Guitars are grown up on trees. Every kid on his birthday is coming with a lolly pop in his hand and rather asking for a dog this time, he is asking his dad to get him a new Guitar. Now for me in this situation, where I'm running a Guitar learning School, the my income is not from selling Guitar, rather my income would be from teaching guitar as its gaining more visibility. So the concept is, there would be a point in the economy where you would sell your product for free or just cover you expense and earn all from service of the product which is may provide many fold the profit earned through product which is one time sell. It breaks the boundations where consumers are not able to purchase the product even, forget about service. There came a plan for my Guitar School, I made a fee structure in which I could sell a guitar for the least price and earn on teaching, so by taking new route to 0+2. Making guitar cheaper would actually helped my business to sustain, it could make your business sustain too...!

2011 stands as an year between "Recovery" and "Growth" worldwide. Companies have learnt new tricks of the trade during recession. Growing big is not as important as being profitable. At the same time, competition has become even more challenging... |
